Cam Thomas Makes History With 36-Point Outing
1 year agoBrooklyn Nets guard/forward Cam Thomas had a spectacular season debut Wednesday versus Cleveland, producing 36 points off the bench in a 114-113 loss. It's the most points a player has scored in a season opener off the bench since the NBA started tracking starters in 1970-71. Thomas completed the historic outing with 13-for-21 shooting from the field, including a 2-for-5 effort from three-point range. He also did a good job in getting to the free-throw line, hitting eight of his 11 efforts. Thomas capped off his line with three rebounds, two assists, and one steal in 25 minutes. The 22-year-old showed last season that he's a very gifted scorer when he became the NBA's youngest-ever player to register 40-plus points in three consecutive games, but he struggled to nail down a regular spot in the rotation. Wednesday's performance should be a big step towards making sure the story is different for Thomas in 2023-24.
