Cade Horton Strikes Out Three in Victory
Cade Horton earned his third MLB victory on Tuesday evening against the Washington Nationals. In this start, Horton tossed 5 1/3 innings of three-run ball with six hits and one walk. He struck out three. Horton allowed his first run of the game in the opening frame on an RBI single by Luis Garcia Jr. Later in the third, CJ Abrams and James Wood would bring in the other two runs via an RBI groundout and a sacrifice fly. Over his first four MLB starts, the top pitching prospect in the Cubs' system has posted a 3.74 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP across 21 2/3 innings. During this stretch, Horton has struck out just 14 batters but showed strong command, allowing just five free passes. Earlier this season at Triple-A, Horton was very effective, posting a 1.24 ERA with a 0.86 WHIP in 29 innings of work. Given his strong control, he is worth a look in deeper 12+ team leagues. He is slated to make his next start this weekend against the Detroit Tigers.
