Brock Purdy A Poor Quality Start In NFC Championship
2 years agoSan Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy faces the top pass defense in the league in the NFC Championship Game. The Philadelphia Eagles have only 175.9 passing yards per game in the regular season and playoffs, the fewest. They have also allowed the fewest yards per attempt, the fewest estimated points (EPA), and the ninth-fewest passing touchdowns per game. Not only do the Eagles make it extremely difficult for opponents to move the ball, they also get after opposing quarterbacks and punish them for mistakes. With a defensive line led by Haason Reddick (17.5 sacks), Josh Sweat (12.5), and Brandon Graham (12.0), Philly led the NFL in total sacks and sack percentage. They tied for No. 4 in team interceptions, while safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson tied for the league lead despite missing five games. The 49ers have an efficient offense, and Purdy has been involved in many of their scoring plays this season, but this is the toughest matchup any signal caller faces in conference championship weekend, and Purdy struggled in a less difficult matchup last week.
