Austin Hooper Working To Get Better
7 years agoAtlanta Falcons tight end Austin Hooper worked with quarterback Matt Ryan last Friday and is putting in more work earlier in the offseason than ever before. “I'm here [in Atlanta] all offseason to work with him,” Hooper said. “Whenever Matt wants to go out, I told him to just text me.” Expectations were high for Hooper in his second season, but he disappointed with 10.7 yards per catch after posting 14.3 yards per catch in his rookie season. Head coach Dan Quinn said he was "pumped" about what Hooper can do in his third year and "very excited" about what he can do. Despite Hooper's upside, the Falcons are looking at free-agent tight end Ed Dickson and considering South Carolina tight end Hayden Hurst in the draft. With Levine Toilolo out of the picture, Atlanta will surely bring in another tight end, which could cut into Hooper's role. Hooper has upside as a red-zone threat, but he must be more consistent on a game-to-game basis to become more than just a solid TE2.
