Astros To Call Up Yordan Alvarez
6 years agoThe Houston Astros will call up outfield prospect Yordan Alvarez from Triple-A Round Rock before the series finale on Sunday against the Orioles, according to sources. Alvarez is the team's No. 3 prospect and No. 23 overall, per MLB Pipeline, but he's been perhaps the best young hitter in the minor leagues this season. The 21-year-old (22 on June 27) has hit a ridiculous .343/.443/.742 with 23 home runs, 71 RBI, 50 runs scored and two stolen bases in 56 games for Round Rock in 2019. He'll be a very sought after commodity on the waiver wire now that he'll be making his debut. Alvarez should see regular playing time in the short term in Houston's outfield, at least until George Springer returns from the injured list. Pick him up immediately if he's available in your league. Derek Fisher figures to be hurt the most by this move, and he might even be sent back to the minors.
