AJ Allmendinger Hopeful For First Top 10 Finish Since February
2 years agoComing off of a partial season last year in which he posted eight top 10 finishes in just 18 starts, it's a bit surprising that AJ Allmendinger hasn't found more success during his 2023 campaign with Kaulig Racing. Through the first 14 races of this year, Allmendinger has just one top 10 finish, and it was a 6th-place run in the season-opening Daytona 500 back in February. With that being said, there is reason for optimism in the #16 team camp this weekend at Gateway. Allmendinger was able to finish 10th at this track last season, and that was without much track time. "Gateway was a racetrack I didn't get to practice at last year since I was running the Xfinity race at Portland. Once I got in a rhythm on the racetrack I really enjoyed it...I had a lot of fun with it. Hopefully we can go back there and base it off our success last year and have a good weekend," AJ recently said. He was 25th-fastest in this weekend's practice session at Gateway and qualified 11th for Sunday's Enjoy Illinois 300 race. That good starting spot could be enough that The Dinger needs to get another top 10 finish.
