Adley Rutschman Expected to Start Rehab Assignment Next Week
Adley Rutschman (oblique) is expected to join Triple-A Norfolk for a minor-league rehab assignment next Tuesday, per MASN's Roch Kubatko. Rutschman has been sidelined with a left-oblique strain since late June, but now that he's close to playing in minor league games, he could be back with the O's by the end of next week, barring a setback. That's big news for both the struggling Orioles and fantasy managers, and hopefully the 27-year-old switch-hitting backstop can have a much better second half. The former first overall pick in 2019 out of Oregon State has a .227/.319/.372 slash line with eight home runs, 20 RBI and 31 runs scored in 242 at-bats. In addition to Rutschman, the O's also have catchers Gary Sanchez, Maverick Handley and Chadwick Tromp on the IL, leaving Jacob Stallings and Alex Jackson to share catching duties.
