Aaron Rodgers Seeks Measures Beyond Pay Increase
7 years agoThe Green Bay Packers and quarterback Aaron Rodgers are currently in the middle of a contract negotiation that will likely make Rodgers one of the highest paid players in football. According to reports by Mike Garofolo, Rodgers is also seeking additional player control. Rodgers is currently under contract for the next two seasons. At $22 million on average per season, Rodgers was one of the highest paid players when he signed his current deal in 2013. However, following a recent slate of new contracts for other signal callers, he finds himself in the middle of the pack in quarterback pay despite being one of the league’s absolute best at the position. The contract negotiations are aimed at rectifying this problem. Besides the two more years in which he is under contract, Rodgers could easily be franchised for several more so he does not have much bargaining power. Rodgers would like to avoid this problem in the future by including a player opt-out clause in his next contract. This would increase his leverage if he wants to renegotiate in order to avoid the problems he is currently facing.
