Andy's NHL power rankings for all 32 teams heading into Week 8 of 2025. Where does each NHL team stand in our latest power rankings for the 2025 season?
Week 7 of the NHL season is in the books, and the standings are taking shape, which means it's time to update our power rankings.
With the Thanksgiving break just days away, we can finally say we are officially past the quarter-mark of the 2025 regular season, and as a result, contenders are beginning to separate from pretenders.
All statistics and team records mentioned are updated as of Monday, November 24. Let's dive in!
No. 32 - Nashville Predators
We have a new team at the bottom.
After travelling overseas, the Predators only played in one game this week and took a tough loss to the Avalanche. Facing the top team in the league, the Predators fell 3-0. In this game, they registered 35 shots but were unable to beat MacKenzie Blackwood. Juuse Saros allowed just one goal on 24 shots.
Entering Week 8, the Predators sit with a league-worst 16 points. They hold a -24 G/D and have scored just 49 total goals. They are the only club that has yet to hit the 50-goal mark.
No. 31- Calgary Flames
While they began their week with a 5-2 loss to the Blackhawks, the Flames picked up two straight wins in the middle of the week and showed signs of life. On Wednesday, they took down the Sabres (6-2) and then upset the Stars in a shootout on Saturday evening. Joel Farabee has enjoyed a surge in scoring, netting three goals during these two victories.
On Sunday, they picked up another victory, upsetting the Canucks in Vancouver.
No. 30 - Vancouver Canucks
Defense and goalkeeping remain a major issue for this club. They began their week with a tough 8-5 loss to the reigning Stanley Cup Champions and then allowed four goals to the Stars on Thursday, in their second-straight loss.
On Sunday, they took another disappointing loss, this time to the Flames on their home ice. They enter Week 8 with a hefty 86 GA, the second-most in the sport, only trailing the Oilers. Their -15 GD is the third-worst mark in the league.
No. 29 - St. Louis Blues
While they ended last week with two losses, they were able to escape with two overtime points in their games against the Leafs and the Flyers. On Saturday, they finally snapped their five-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over the surging Islanders in Belmont, New York.
Jordan Binnington led the way in this victory, stopping 30 of the 31 shots he saw. Before this victory, the veteran netminder carried a hefty 3.45 GAA and a .871% SV% over his last seven games.
No. 28 - Toronto Maple Leafs
If the panic button wasn't already hit in Toronto, it finally was this weekend. The Leafs had another rough week and continue to fall in the Eastern Conference. They opened their week with an overtime victory over the Blues on Tuesday, but then dropped their next two games (in overtime to Columbus on Thursday and in regulation to the Canadiens on Saturday).
They enter the holiday week with a disappointing 9-10-3 record. Even though they sit sixth in terms of total goals scored, their defense and goaltending are holding this team back substantially.
No. 27 - Buffalo Sabres
The Sabres enjoyed a massive offensive surge this week. After scoring more than three goals just once this month, the Sabres hit this mark twice. On Monday, they opened their week with a dominant 5-1 victory over the Oilers. While they had a disappointing showing against the lowly Flames on Wednesday, they bounced back well, netting nine goals in their victory over the Blackhawks on Friday.
On Sunday, they continued to find their footing, taking down the Eastern powerhouse, the Hurricanes, by a score of 4-1.
No. 26 - New York Rangers
The Rangers traveled out west this week and were handed three straight regular-season losses. They fell to the Golden Knights, Avalanche, and the Mammoth, all in regulation. This was a disappointing road trip for the Blue Shirts, who entered this week carrying momentum, having won four of their previous five games.
During this slump, their offense took a back seat, scoring two or fewer goals in two of these games. They will look to bounce back on Monday, facing the Blues.
No. 25 - Chicago Blackhawks
After a productive stretch, the Blackhawks were hit with some expected regression this week. When they opened the week with a 5-2 victory over the struggling Flames on Tuesday, they would then drop their next two games, both in regulation, to the Kraken and the Sabres.
On Sunday, they would host the Colorado Avalanche and fell to the Western powerhouse by a close 1-0 score. Spencer Knight continues to be one of the best surprises of the young season, entering the new week with an impressive 2.38 GAA and a .924% SV%.

No. 24 - Florida Panthers
The Panthers began to show signs of life last week and posted another winning record this week, as they continue to climb in the Atlantic Division. In Week 7, they opened with a thrilling 8-5 victory over the Canucks and then proceeded to shut out the high-powered Devils (1-0) on Thursday.
While they ended with a tough loss to the Oilers in the Stanley Cup rematch on Saturday, the Panthers now sit with a modest 11-9-1 record. As they look to get healthy, expect this team to continue climbing the standings.
No. 23 - Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers continue to show high upside at times, but fall well short of expectations in others. They began their week with two regulation losses to the Buffalo Sabres (5-1) and the Washington Capitals (7-4). However, on Friday, they escaped Tampa Bay with an overtime point and got back in the win column on Saturday evening in a rematch against the Panthers.
Overall, the reigning Western Conference Champions sit with an underwhelming 10-9-5 record. However, given how tight the Pacific Division currently is, they remain in the heat of the race.
No. 22 - Washington Capitals
The Capitals needed a bounce-back week, and they got it. After ending Week 7 sitting near the bottom of the Eastern Conference, the Capitals picked up three wins in four games, in dominant fashion.
They began their week with three straight regulation wins, over the Kings, Oilers, and Canadiens. During this stretch, they held a +8 GD. However, their win streak was ultimately snapped on Saturday evening by the surging Lightning. Entering Week 8, Tom Wilson still holds the team high in points and goals scored.
No. 21 - Winnipeg Jets
The Jets opened the week with a 5-3 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets, but took a step back later in the week, losing to two tough opponents. On Friday, they fell to the Hurricanes (4-3) and were then shut out by the surging Wild on Sunday evening.
Entering Week 8, the Jets hold a modest 12-9 record and have been one of the worst teams in the league over the past two weeks, holding a 4-6 record over their last 10. They will look to get back on track in D.C. on Wednesday.
No. 20 - San Jose Sharks
After taking a drop in last week's rankings, the emerging Sharks quickly found their footing and got themselves back on track. They ended last week with two straight losses to the Flames and Kraken. However, they opened the new week with two overtime victories over the Mammoth and the Kings.
On Saturday, they fell to the Senators but rebounded on Sunday, taking down Boston on their home ice in the second half of the back-to-back. They enter Week 8 with an 11-9-3 record.
No. 19 - Columbus Blue Jackets
The Blue Jackets had a busy four-game week and continued to hold their ground. They finished with a 2-1-1 record, earning at least one point in all but one contest. Their lone regulation loss came at the hands of the Winnipeg Jets in Western Canada on Tuesday evening.
Despite their inconsistencies, they entered Week 8 holding an 11-8-3 record with a -3 GD. After a slow start, star defenseman Zach Werenski has begun to make a massive impact on the box score. Over the last 13 games, the blue liner has tallied 15 points with five goals.
No. 18 - Utah Mammoth
After hitting a slump earlier this month, the Mammoth needed to pile up points this week and did so. Through four games, they held a 1-1-2 record. Their overtime losses came on Monday and Tuesday in California against the Ducks and Sharks. They fell to the Golden Knights in regulation on Thursday but ended their week with a victory over the Rangers on Saturday night.
Nick Schmaltz continues to lead the offense as he enters the new week as the lone player on the club with double-digit goals (10) and currently leads the team in points (22).
No. 17 - Boston Bruins
After an impressive last week, the Bruins took a slight dip in our rankings. This week, they faced tough competition and were unable to get the job done, falling to the Hurricanes on Monday (3-1) and to the Ducks (in Anaheim) by a score of 4-3. However, they got back on track, taking down the Kings in overtime on Friday.
They concluded their week with a loss against the Sharks on Sunday, falling 3-1. They will begin Week 8 with a return to the East Coast, facing the rising Islanders in Belmont.
No. 16 - Montreal Canadiens
An early-season darling continues to tumble in our rankings. This week, the Canadiens took another step back, posting a modest 1-1-1 record. Their lone victory came against the Toronto Maple Leafs, who are struggling just as much. Over their last 10, the Canadiens have posted a rough 3-4-3, which ranks among the worst in the sport.
One of the major reasons for this slump has been netminder Jakub Dobes. Following his near-dominant start, Dobes has held a 4.15 GAA over his last five games.
No. 15 - Philadelphia Flyers
Here come the Flyers. After showing some signs of growth earlier this month, the Flyers finally put together two strong performances and enter the new week on a two-game win streak. They began the week with a 3-2 overtime victory over the Blues and then took down the Eastern heavyweight New Jersey Devils on Sunday evening by a score of 6-3.
Following his slow start, second-year winger Matvei Michkov appears to have found his footing, which is crucial for this team to compete. Over his last seven, the young Russian has scored four goals. They will have a tough task waiting for them on Monday in Tampa Bay.

No. 14 - Pittsburgh Penguins
Like the Predators, the Penguins had a small slate of action since returning from overseas. They showed some growing pains on Saturday as they fell to the Wild by a score of 5-0. However, on Saturday, they got back on track, taking an overtime loser point in their loss to the Kraken.
Even though they posted a 3-4-3 record over their last 10, this team continues to exceed expectations. However, the major test will be if they can snap out of this slump and return to their early-season form.
No. 13 - Detroit Red Wings
The Red Wings continued to hold their ground in the Eastern Conference with another 2-1 showing. Their lone loss came at the hands of the Islanders, who were one of the best teams over the past two weeks, where their victories came against the Kraken and the Blue Jackets (in overtime).
Despite sitting at 13-8-1, the Red Wings enter Week 8 with a -4 GD, suggesting regression could be on the way. On offense, Alex DeBrincat, Lucas Raymond, and Dylan Larkin continue to do most of the heavy lifting as all three forwards have hit the 20-point marker through 22 games played.
No. 12 - Los Angeles Kings
The Kings went undefeated last week and flipped the script for the worst in Week 7, posting a 0-1-2 record. They began the week with a 2-1 loss in Washington, D.C. before traveling to San Jose to lose in a shootout and returning home with a loss to the Bruins in overtime. While they escaped with a loser point, this was a stark comparison to this team's performance last week.
The Kings have quietly been one of the best road teams in the league, carrying a 9-4-3 record, compared to their rough 1-4-3 home record. If this team can find its form in Los Angeles, they should remain in lockstep with Anaheim for the top spot in the division.
No. 11 - Minnesota Wild
The Wild faced some tough tasks this week, but continued to climb in the Western Conference. They opened Week 7 with a 4-3 shootout victory over the Carolina Hurricanes. This outing actually extended their winning streak to three games. Then on Friday, they marched into Pittsburgh and took down the Penguins by an impressive 5-0 score.
On Sunday, they continued to roll, knocking down the Winnipeg Jets by a score of 3-0. This brings them to a strong 12-7-4 and enters Week 8 as one of the hottest teams in the league.
No. 10 - Ottawa Senators
The Senators played only two games this week but got the job done, picking up all four possible points. They began their week in Anaheim on Thursday evening, where they took down the Ducks 3-2. Then on Saturday, they traveled to San Jose, where they defeated the Sharks 3-2 in regulation once again.
Over their last 10 games, the Senators have been quite dominant, posting a 6-1-3 record. Even without star winger Brady Tkachuk (thumb) sitting out of the lineup, the Senators continue to win and now sit near the top of the Atlantic Division.
No. 9 - Seattle Kraken
Coming out of last week with a two-game win streak, the Kraken quickly saw this come to an end at the hands of the Red Wings on Tuesday evening. However, despite this loss, the team continues to bounce back, taking down the Blackhawks and Penguins on the road on Thursday and Saturday.
On Sunday, they concluded their week with a trip to Belmont to face the red-hot Islanders, but they escaped with a shootout loss. While their offense has scored just 57 goals (second-fewest in the league), their defense has kept them in games, allowing the fourth-fewest. If this team can start scoring, they can be a legit contender.
No. 8 - New York Islanders
One of the hottest teams in the league continues to soar in our rankings. After going 3-1 last week, the Islanders stayed hot, picking up two straight victories to open their week before falling to the Blues on Saturday. In this victory, they posted an elite +6 GD and even shut out the Red Wings in Detroit (5-0).
They concluded their week with a 1-0 shootout victory over the Kraken. David Rittich has quietly been one of the most reliable No. 2 netminders over the past month, posting a 1.28 GAA with a .944% SV% over his last three outings.
No. 7 - Tampa Bay Lightning
After a slight step back last week, the Lighting got back on track and continued to surge in our rankings. This week, the Lightning posted a perfect 3-0 record and pulled some impressive victories, especially on Tuesday against the New Jersey Devils (5-1).
Through 10 games this month, Jake Guentzel has continued to spark the offense, scoring eight goals and adding four helpers. In net, Andrei Vasilevskiy has been near perfect, holding a 0.99 GAA over his last three games.

No. 6 - New Jersey Devils
Without Jack Hughes, the Devils were expected to regress. However, after dropping all three of their games this week, they are taking a stark drop in our rankings. All three of their losses came in regulation and, more importantly, to all Eastern Conference teams (Panthers, Lightning, and Flyers). On Sunday, they took their toughest loss of the season to the Flyers, falling 6-3.
They enter Week 8 riding a three-game losing streak and have won just five of their last 10. They will look to right the ship on Monday against the Red Wings.
No. 5 - Vegas Golden Knights
Despite the injuries on this roster, the Golden Knights continue to find ways to win. This week, they picked up four of their six possible points, with their victories coming against the Rangers and the Mammoth. Their one loss came on Saturday evening against the Western powerhouse, the Anaheim Ducks.
Jack Eichel has continued to be the heartbeat of the offense with Mark Stone on the shelf. Over his last nine games, Eichel has tallied 10 points (eight helpers).
No. 4 - Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks were one of our biggest fallers last week and appeared to be nearing the end of their hot stretch. However, to much surprise, this young Ducks team bounced back quite well, once again, and sits within our top-5. This week, the Ducks took care of business in a demanding fashion, posting a 3-1 record, with their one loss coming at the hands of the Senators.
They earned three victories over the Mammoth, Golden Knights, and Bruins. They enter Week 8 with a strong 14-7-1 record, putting them in sole possession of first place in the Pacific Division.
No. 3 - Carolina Hurricanes
After falling to the Oilers on Saturday, the Hurricanes wasted little time to get back in the win column on Monday when they knocked down the high-powered Bruins in Boston (3-1). While they fell to the surging Wild in a shootout on Wednesday, they once again rebounded very well, taking down the Jets on Friday evening in Winnipeg.
On Sunday, they saw their win streak get snapped very quickly once again, falling to the Sabres in regulation, in a disappointing showing (4-1). In this game, the Hurricanes were unable to beat Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, who stopped 29 of the 30 shots. Despite this loss, the Hurricanes enter Week 8 with the most points in the Eastern Conference.
No. 2- Dallas Stars
After a stellar showing last week, the Stars continued to roll in Week 7. They began with a tough 3-2 loss to the surging Islanders but rebounded well, picking up three points over their first two games. Their lone victory came against the Canucks in Vancouver, but they fell to the Flames in Calgary in a shootout on Saturday evening.
Overall, Dallas enters Week 8 carrying a stellar 7-1-3 record over their last 10 games. They sit with a 13-5-4 record, good for the third-most points in the NHL.
No. 1 - Colorado Avalanche
Without a doubt, the Colorado Avalanche will continue to hold the top spot and are showing no signs of giving it up. This week, the Avalanche continued to show no signs of slowing down, defeating the Rangers (6-2) and shutting down the Predators (3-0) on Saturday evening.
On Sunday, they picked up another victory (1-0) over the Blackhawks. They enter Week 8 boasting a near-perfect 9-0-1 record over their last 10 and an overall 37 points, the most in the sport by a significant margin.
