Malik Monk is worth considering as a fantasy basketball waiver wire pickup heading into Week 22 of the 2022-23 NBA season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 8% of leagues
ANALYSIS: Malik Monk only played 12 minutes back on Mar. 6 against the Pelicans. That’s bad (although he still, somehow, finished that game with 11 points, a dime, and a rebound). Monk has played six more games after that and through Saturday for the impressive Kings, and he’s logged 20+ minutes in each of them including playing 24+ in three straight.
Monk has been his usual self of late—only über. He’s hit 4, 4, 5, 3, and 5 three-point shots in five of those games. That’s insane. From Mar. 9 on Monk has averaged 15 PPG, 3.5 3PM per game, and a fantastic 4 RPG to go with 5 APG and 1.5+ stocks per game. The turnovers are still a bit high (1.8 TOPG in that span) but that happens when you get to carry a second unit even while (still) playing a spot-up shooting role more often than not.
Malik Monk is not going anywhere because his path toward a starting role is obviously blocked by Kevin Huerter. That said, he’s the main man off the pine in Sacto, and the usage rates he gets nightly speak for themselves (25%).
If you need points, triples, and a very solid production of dimes and rebounds you can do much worse than rostering one of the best microwave shooters off the pine this season, with the upside/bonus he comes attached to when it comes to getting solid production outside of the great percentages/tallies on low volume field-goal attempts.
