BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 41% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Whether this game was a fluke or not, you'd be smart adding Khalil Herbert to your roster before other fantasy GMs catch up and you miss on the opportunity. The consensus opinion is and has always been that of David Montgomery being the Bears no. 1 rusher followed on the pecking order by Herbert and any other player taking on rushing reps. Not to kick the year off, though, at least on a production-basis.
Of course, the Bears wanted and tried to make Montgomery the leading weapon of their offense--other than QB Justin Fields--handing him the rock 17 times and targeting him with four passes. All Montgomery did, though, is racking up 26 rushing yards (1.5 per) and 24 receiving yards on three receptions. No touchdowns to his name. What a day!
Herbert, though, was absolutely great and put on a very efficient performance. Herbert's 11.3 PPR points most definitely didn't win you the week by themselves. Those fantasy points, though, came from a low-volume nine-carry, one-target, 10-total-touches outing in which Herbert rushed the ball for 45 yards on the ground and a touchdown (while losing two yards on his lone reception).
While Montgomery will have better days, so will Herbert. Even then, though, the sophomore looked great in the few touches he got and this week might be the only one in which can still, at least in some leagues with asleep GMs, find him in your waiver wire pool and add him for free.
Even if Montgomery keeps getting the heavier workload, Herbert looked like a great backup to have rostered in case Montgomery goes down with an injury at some point.
