BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 47% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Two players from the Detroit Lions finished Week 1 inside the top-12 at their respective position: WR Amon-Ra St-Brown and RB D'Andre Swift (top-3 pending MNF). So, what makes Jamaal Williams so appealing as to have him featured in the WW weekly posts, even more with a near-50% rostership above our house rule of no WW targets above 40 percent?
For one, Williams carried the ball 11 times to Swift's 15 rushing attempts. That's close enough to get me interested in the former RB. Then, there is the fact that Williams got 13 opportunities in just 23 snaps while Swift only got 18 in 47 for a much smaller rate (56.5% to 38.2%). Most importantly, though, this game showed that the Lions, as expected, are going to keep the two-man RBBC going at least for the start of the 2022 season.
Williams was also used four times in goal-line plays compared to Swift's one such opportunity. Even with the low rushing yardage posted by Williams (28 yards on 11 carries for a measly 2.5 YPC), the two touchdowns fixed his stat line and helped him reach a stupendous 16 PPR tally.
Swift was the better rusher overall (144 yards on 15 carries, 3-for-3 receptions for 31 yards) but that and his 26.5 PPR had a lot to do with his volume. As long as the split in opportunities is this close, and as long as Williams keeps getting the fancy goal-line touches, there is no reason not to chase Williams and having him playing weekly as part of your fantasy squad in most leagues no matter the format.
