5 Fantasy Baseball Outfield Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 23

Joe Hannon analyzes the top five fantasy baseball outfielders available as waiver wire pickups. These outfield sleepers can be of great value in the last month.

This weeks' outfield waiver wire list focuses on speed. Here are five outfield sleepers that can get on base, steal bags, and score runs. Four of these sleeper outfielders are leadoff hitters, granting them every opportunity to produce offensively. Regardless of the format, these five players are bound to aid fantasy owners over the last few weeks of the season.

Juan Lagares - (OF, NYM) 6% Owned

BALLER MOVE: Add in All Formats

By slgckgc on Flickr (Original version) UCinternational (Crop) [CC-BY-2.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0)], via Wikimedia CommonsOver his last 12 games, Juan Lagares has been one of the hottest hitters in the league. Juan has collected 17 H, 9 R, 2 HR, 10 RBI, and 5 SB. The five stolen bases have come in his last six games, making him an excellent addition for fantasy owners looking to add speed to their lineups. Lagares should continue to leadoff and play center field for the Mets down the stretch and is worth adding in all league formats.

Mookie Betts - (OF, BOS) 18% Owned

BALLER MOVE: Add in All Formats

Like Lagares, Mookie Betts is another outfielder who has been promoted to the top of his teams' batting order due to his recent production. Betts has produced 14 H, 8 R, 3 HR, 8 RBI, and 3 SB over his last 11 games. Batting in the leadoff spot should allow him to continue to score runs and wreak havoc on the basepaths. Mookie will continue to see consistent playing time for the Red Sox, at least until Rusney Castillo gets called up to the majors. If and when that happens, Betts' fantasy value may drop. For now, Mookie is worth adding in all formats while he is hot.

Arismendy Alcantara - (SS/2B/OF, CHC) 39% Owned

BALLER MOVE: Add in All Formats

After an impressive first week in the majors, Arismendy Alcantara went through quite the cold streak over the next month or so. Recently, Alcantara has found his swing again, blasting five home runs over his past 11 contests. In just 51 career games, Arismendy has collected 44 H, 24 R, 8 HR, 21 RBI, and 7 SB. His defensive versatility makes Alcantara an enticing fantasy option over the final month of the season.

Adam Eaton - (OF, CWS) 79% Owned

BALLER MOVE: Add in All Formats

MLB: Spring Training-Chicago White Sox at Texas RangersThough he is owned in the majority of fantasy formats, Adam Eaton is still a free agent in about 20% of standard leagues. Eaton hit safely in his first seven games after returning from the disabled list, posting 12 H, 9 R, 1 RBI, and 2 SB during that time. Eaton will leadoff for the Sox throughout the remainder of the season and should be a sound source of batting average, runs, and stolen bases. Pick him up if he is still available.

Gregor Blanco - (OF, SF) 15% Owned

BALLER MOVE: Add in NL-Only and Deeper Leagues

Sticking with the theme here, Gregor Blanco is another leadoff man that has been successful as of late. The Giants' outfielder is riding an eight game hitting streak in which he has belted out 11 H, 7 R, 2 HR, 8 RBI, and 1 SB. Blanco can do a little bit of everything and is worth adding in deeper leagues and NL-only formats during his current streak.
