NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 11/7/23

We have finally made it! The 2023-2024 season is upon us and we welcome the next generational talent, Connor Bedard to the front and center! With many big moves over the offseason – Karlsson to Pittsburgh – and many signings during Free Agency, this season will make for yet another interesting race to Lord Stanley!

Tonight we have a 12-game slate and two teams playing on a  back-to-back: Dallas and Arizona. The currently live top-3 highest implied team totals are: Tampa Bay with 3.7, Vancouver with 3.6 and Edmonton with 3.5. I will do my best to guide you through this twelve-game slate on DraftKings and FanDuel starting at 7:00 p.m. EDT.

DISCLOSURE: Make sure to monitor the NHL news feeds for the latest player status and injury news.

DraftKings and FanDuel Goalies - NHL DFS Picks

Juuse Saros - DK $7.5K || FD $7.7K

Opponent - Calgary Flames

As expected, the netminder facing the Calgary Flames is the featured goalie of the slate. The Flames are pumping the tenth-best Shots For Per 60 but still reside in the bottom three in Goals For Per 60. This offers Saros plenty of floor and upside, especially for someone who is averaging 27 Saves Per 60 in his last five games. With the home narrative written in the stars, expect Saros to receive the DraftKings Shot Bonus in a low-scoring affair against the Calgary Flames.

Others To Consider (Cash/GPP):

  • Ingram (DK $7.6K || FD $7.4K)
  • Fleury (DK $7.5K || FD $7.9K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Centers - NHL DFS Picks

Vincent Trocheck - DK $4.5K || FD $4.2K

Opponent - Detroit Red Wings

Teammate Filip Chytil went down with an injury in the 2-1 win against Carolina last week and in his place, Trocheck stepped in. In roughly a game and a half, the center has 1 assist, 1 shot and 3 blocked shots and the assist came in his first start of the season as the second line center. Coming in under $5K on DraftKings tonight makes Trocheck a candidate for value play of the slate. With previous chemistry already there between Trocheck and linemate, Artemi Panarin, expect sparks to fly in a soft matchup against the Detroit Red Wings.

Dawson Mercer - DK $4.1K || FD $5.1K

Opponent - Colorado Avalanche

Although it is not the friendliest of matchups, Mercer can still reach value and has a large window to do it. The center/winger has taken over the top line with both teammates Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes going down with injuries and over his last five games, he has 1 goal, 12 shots and 6 blocked shots. In a fast-paced meeting with the Avalanche, Mercer is expected to see his fair share of opportunities.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Point (DK $7.2K || FD $8.4K)
  • Cates (DK $3.5K || FD $3.6K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Wings - NHL DFS Picks

Tanner Pearson - DK $4.1K || FD $4K

Opponent - Tampa Bay Lightning

Believe it or not, Montreal has a good matchup tonight and more specifically the second line. The trio of Tanner Pearson-Sean Monahan-Brendan Gallagher has surprisingly been the most efficient and consistent line for the Canadiens by a mile. Although, over Pearson’s last five games, he has 1 assist, 7 shots and 3 blocked shots. The production has halted a bit, however, he will see the top two lines of Tampa Bay for the majority of the game and they are both notorious for a lack of defense. With plenty of pay-up spots on the slate, Pearson is an optimal value play.

Cam Atkinson - DK $5.5K || FD $5.9K

Opponent - San Jose Sharks

Unlike Tanner Pearson, Cam Atkinson is of no surprise. San Jose is potentially record-breaking bad this year without a win in their first eleven games and in their last two games they have been outscored 20-3 at home….AT HOME!! San Jose is the top team to target the rest of the season. The Sharks are the fourth-worst in Shots Against Per 60 and they are the worst in Scoring Chances Against, High-Danger Chances Against and Goals Against – all Per 60 –. On the other side of the ice, Atkinson is leading the Flyers in every offensive metric. Throughout his last five appearances, he has 2 goals, 16 shots and 3 blocked shots. He also has reached the Shot Bonus on DraftKings twice in his last three games. Without center Sean Couturier, production may drop, but Atkinson is still going to be fed the entire game and against a Sharks team conceding chances left, right and center, this is a ‘no-brainer’ for under $6K.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Panarin (DK $7.2K || FD $9.1K)
  • Smith (DK $5.4K || FD $5.7K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Defensemen - NHL DFS Picks

Erik Gustafsson - DK $3.6K || FD $4.6K

Opponent - Detroit Red Wings

Until DraftKings learns their lesson and corrects his salary, Gustafsson is a ‘free space’ on the bingo card for the night. The defenseman has taken over duties for Adam Fox while the latter is on the IR. In two full games since taking over the top power-play unit, Gustafsson has 1 goal, 1 assist, 2 shots and 4 blocked shots. Now he gets to go up against the aforementioned Detroit Red Wings who sit just outside the bottom ten in most meaningful metrics. For the cherry on top, Gusty will be playing with the second line more often than not, meaning he will see plenty of chances against Detroit’s woeful second line.

Vince Dunn - DK $4.1K || FD $5.2K

Opponent - Arizona Coyotes

To conclude the slate, a mainstay from last season returns for his first feature. Vince Dunn for whatever reason was not quarterbacking the top power-play unit for the Seattle Kraken to start the season and it wasn’t until the last few games that he returned to it. In his last five games, he has 1 goal, 2 assists, 10 shots and 4 blocked shots. Arizona is playing much better hockey compared to last year when they were the San Jose Sharks – the top team to target –, although, Dunn still offers plenty of upside even if it is just peripherals. For just over $4K on DraftKings, this could be one of the top value plays of the night.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Hughes (DK $4.2K || FD $5.1K)
  • Johnson (DK $2.5K || FD $3.7K)
