BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED: 16% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: This might be the only time I have written a waiver wire post about a still-available free agent. That's correct. Freeman is still out there without a signed contract and could end anywhere... or nowhere. That being said, the latest news related to the tailback popped the very second Saquon Barkley fell down to injury this past Sunday, with the Giants expected to meet the former Falcon to see where he's at in conditioning and potentially offer him a deal at least for the 2020 year.
Barkley has already been out for the season, and the other two running backs in the Giants backfield aren't that appealing. Dion Lewis and Wayne Gallman should function as RB1 and RB2 respectively if nothing changes, which also means if Freeman signs with the Giants he will be instantly thrust into the go-to rusher of the New York team. Now, you tell me where can you find an RB1 for free with as much upside as Freeman would have in this offense if only because of the volume he'd see.
Freeman played 14 games for Atlanta last season, finishing the year as the RB20 with 197.6 PPR points and an average of 14.1 PPG. That isn't a bad outcome for someone who had to share the field with three very capable receivers in Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, and for most of the season Russell Gage/Mo Sanu. Even then, Freeman logged 184 carries for 656 yards and 2 TDs, adding 410 yards on 59 receptions scoring 4 more TDs. If you have room to stash Freeman, do it now. If not, gamble a bit and acquire his services expecting a signing that could see him take the field already in Week 3.
UPDATE: Devonta Freeman has officially signed with the New York Giants, and has a chance to play in Week 3. He's expected to act as the primary running back, along with Dion Lewis while he ramps up.
