Deeper PPR and Standard Waiver Wire Pickups (Week 2)

With Week 1 fully in the bag, we finally have some actual, real, honest-to-goodness stats to go over instead of preseason nonsense and on-paper predictions. Here are some names to consider plucking off your waiver wire for Week 2 if the injury, ineffective or not active bug went "nom nom nom" on any piece of your roster.

All players are owned in 20% or less of Flea Flicker leagues and are a mix between standard scoring and PPR pickups.

PPR and Standard Running Back Waiver Wire Adds

Jalen Richard (RB, OAK) - 1% Owned

Rookie running back Jalen Richard made a huge splash in his career debut Sunday, playing a key part in the Raiders' 35-34 win over the Saints. Despite starting on the bottom of the team's three-man running back totem pole, he led the team in yards with 84 yards and a touchdown on three carries, throwing in two receptions for 11 yards. After receiving critical snaps on the Raiders' game-winning drive, the assumption is that going into Week 2, he'll be in the middle of the totem pole. But as of Monday, that's not a certainty, making Richard more of a long-term lottery ticket pick. On a week that's short on running backs to recommend under the 20% owned threshold, he's easily the shining jewel despite no playing time guarantee. The Raiders do draw the Falcons next, a team that despite giving up the sixth-most fantasy points to opposing running backs last year managed to hold the Bucs' running game to 90 yards and no touchdowns on 28 attempts in Week 1.

Shane Vereen (RB, NYG) - 13% Owned

Running back Shane Vereen, the long-time PPR-friendly running back, is up to his usual old shenanigans of racking up targets as a receiver while throwing in a pinch of actual rushing. In the Giants' 20-19 win over the Cowboys Sunday, he caught 3-of-7 targets for 23 yards while rushing six times for 38 yards. Hardly a blip on the radar for standard leagues, Vereen's seven targets are a sure-fire sign that he'll continue to rank inside the NFL's top catching backs in terms of PPR production. The Giants will face a Saints' defense in Week 2 that lived up to last year's standards of ineptitude in regards to stopping the running game Week 1, allowing 167 yards and three touchdowns on the ground to the Raiders' backs.

Others: Travaris Cadet (0% 0wned) showed some early promise as a potential PPR points source after catching 3-of-7 targets Week 1 against the Raiders, as did Charcandrick West (17% 0wned), who caught all six of his Week 1 targets for 24 yards against the Raiders and who's team will likely still be without starting back Jamaal Charles.

PPR and Standard Wide Receiver Waiver Wire Adds

Davante Adams (WR, GB) - 9% Owned

Stop me if you've heard this before about wide receiver Davante Adams and his fantasy potential...most of you stopped me, right? Last year, he was surrounded with so much hype and came up short too often, leading to him going undrafted in many leagues this year. But after catching three of his seven targets for 50 yards and a touchdown in Week 1's 27-23 win over the Jags, we are right back to where we were last year, talking about the fantasy potential of anyone catching balls from quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Green Bay will travel to Minnesota for their Week 2 game, a matchup that tilts right into Adams' favor. After giving up the 14th-most fantasy points to receivers last year, the Titans were able to burn the Vikings for 25 catches on 41 attempts for 271 yards and two touchdowns.

Nelson Agholor (WR, PHI) - 4% Owned

Second-year wide receiver Nelson Agholor suffered through an awful rookie campaign last year, leading most of the fantasy world to write him off this year, understandably so. Yet on Sunday against last year's "Best Defense To Start Your WRs Against," the Browns, he caught 4-of-5 targets for 57 yards and a touchdown. A 35-yard touchdown pass was the highlight of his night, as he showed a good repertoire with rookie quarterback Carson Wentz. The number two receiver on a team trending upward (well, as upward you can be from the bottom of a long, not tall, hill), Agholor will go as far as Wentz will throw, Agholor's struggles considered. With the Eagles facing a so-so Bears' defense in Week 2, the sequel chances here are good.

Others: Eddie Royal (1% Owned) will continue to benefit while the team's number two receiver Kevin White goes through growing pains. Quincy Enunwa (1% Owned) has a rib injury that limited in practice Monday but could help more often than not this season in deep PPR leagues. Brandon LaFell (5% Owned) who caught all four of his targets for 91 yards while looking like the team's number two receiver with Tyler Eifert sidelined.

PPR and Standard Tight End Waiver Wire Adds

Jacob Tamme (TE, ATL) - 2% Owned

After beating out fellow tight end Austin Hooper for the starting spot, Jacob Tamme put himself right back on the PPR map after spending much of last year there. He caught six of his eight targets Week 1 for 51 yards as he did what he does best: catch the ball. Tamme has always been a hard sell to standard scoring leagues because he rarely produces touchdowns (he hasn't had more than two in a season since 2010 when he had four with the Colts). With the Falcons' thinner at wide receiver than in recent years, the throw-first team really has no reason to not continue to lean on Tamme as an important part of this offense. With Week 2 matchup against a Raiders' defense that did little to keep the Saints in check Week 1--373 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns--fantasy owners should expect another good week from the tight end.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins (TE, TB) - 9% Owned

He may have only had one catch in the Buccaneers' 31-24 Week 1 win over the Falcons, but did tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins make it count. He turned his lone target into a 30-yard touchdown catch, coming into the game as the co-starter at his position. While he was in a rotation with fellow tight ends Cameron Brate (three receptions for 30 yards) and Luke Stocker (no catches) all game, Seferian-Jenkins' catch was the highlight play between the three. With a Week 2 matchup against the Cardinals one that doesn't favor either side of the football more than the other, he'll have to capitalize on some of that potential if he's to keep earning a bigger role in the Bucs' offense. This situation is likely to be muddled for a couple more weeks, but as long as Seferian-Jenkins is healthy, his upside is going to be too hard for his team to ignore.

Others: Jack Doyle's (1% owned) two-touchdown outburst in Week 1 isn't going to be a regular occurrence, but it's not outlandish to think he can outproduce the Colts' second tight end of 2015, Coby Fleener (54 catches for 491 yards and three touchdowns). Whoever the Eagles decide to start in place of the injured Zach Ertz could be worth a look, but that's a big if until we know exactly who that will be. Good old boring Kyle Rudolph (18% owned) has a decent matchup in Week 2 against the Packers after opening the season putting up a "KR Special" Week 1 against the Titans, catching 4-of-8 targets for 65 yards.

Quarterback, Kicker and Defense Waiver Wire Adds

Carson Wentz (QB, PHI) - 7% Owned

Rookie quarterback Carson Wentz looked like a fantasy veteran in his first career start Sunday, steering the Eagles to a 29-10 win over the Browns. He completed 22-of-37 passes for 278 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. He spread the ball around the field and between his receivers, though passing-back Darren Sproles was notably left alone. But with the injury to tight end Zach Ertz, that likely will change for Week 2, which will only further increase Wentz's fantasy potential. The Eagles will face the Bears Week 2 in a matchup against a team equally as awful at suppressing opposing quarterbacks as the Browns were last year. With Wentz on a team with plenty of weapons, leagues with two quarterbacks should definitely take notice of the rookie.

Others: Jay Cutler (12% owned) was decent in the Bears' Week 1 loss and should get better as the season goes on and his team begins to click. Jimmy Garoppolo (7% owned) was also decent in a game without his best weapon tight end Rob Gronkowski, who is hoping to return Week 2.

Wil Lutz (K, NO) - 1% Owned

New Saints' kicker Wil Lutz scored a dream NFL kicker job as his first: kicker for a high-scoring offense. That theory was immediately tested and approved Week 1 as he made 2-of-4 field goals (the only ones he missed were 50+ yards away) and all four of his extra points to score 10 points on the day. The Saints will face the Giants in a great fantasy matchup for Lutz, a team who is coming off a game in which they allowed four field goals.

Others: Jason Myers (1% owned) came back from the grave Sunday to put himself back on the kicker map and Nick Novak (6% owned) made all three of his field goals against the Bears on what should be one of the Texans' best offensive years in franchise history (if things break right, of course).

Baltimore (DEF) - 7% Owned

Hardly looking like the must-start defensive unit they were back when I got into fantasy football, the Baltimore defense came into the season without much attention shed on them. They put forth an average fantasy performance against the Bills Week 1 in what would have amounted to a "par for the course" fantasy day against Buffalo last year. The Ravens will face the Browns in a Week 2 matchup that should produce a double-digit fantasy score that is too good to let the waiver wire eat. Cleveland averaged 11 fantasy points allowed to opposing defenses last year, a number that the Eagles were able to match in their Week 1 victory over the Browns.

Others: Miami (3% owned) and Dallas (3% owned) represent the lowest of low-end gamble plays for Week 2, but hopefully you can continue to ignore these wild card lottery tickets while there are no bye weeks.
