Daniel Norris revealed on his Instagram Monday that he has been diagnosed with cancer.
The Detroit Tigers starting pitcher was told that he has a malignant growth on his thyroid. A doctor told Norris the news a few months back, but also said that the growth could be removed after the season.
Tigers general manager Al Avila said the club expects Norris to be ready for spring training. The left-hander spent the season in the minors. The 22-year-old is expected to be a major league pitcher down the road. Next season could be his chance to be a regular in the rebuilding rotation.
Norris sported a 5.40 ERA for the 2015 season through the minors. He was a part of the David Price trade that saw the Toronto Blue Jays send him over to Detroit.
