Another busy Tuesday in the NHL with nine games on the schedule. Only the New York Rangers will be playing on a back to back night while there are five teams (NJ, CBJ, BYR, BUF, COL, VAN) who will be playing a third game in four nights. Six of the top 10 offenses and eight of the bottom 10 defenses are in action so we should expect some high scoring fantasy lineups.

NHL Daily League Lineup Picks for Tuesday, March 7

For those that are new to this, each day we'll be providing you with a few of our top DFS lineup picks for daily league cash games on FanDuel and DraftKings. Ryan O'Reilly (C, BUF)

DraftKings - $6,100, FanDuel - $6,400

The Sabres have lost two in a row and with playoffs nearly out of site, there isn't much to play for. That hasn't stopped Ryan O'Reilly who is red hot with goals in three straight and nine points over his last 10 games with four points on the powerplay and one shorthanded. He has also provided a safe floor this season, averaging over three shots on goal per game.

 

Brayden Schenn (W, PHI)

DraftKings - $5,600, FanDuel - $5,600

On the other side of the ice, Brayden Schenn makes a nice play tonight on the road in Buffalo. He comes with a very affordable mid $5K price tag and although he went scoreless last game, had points in six straight prior to that while centering the second line. He also jumps up with Giroux and Simmonds on the top powerplay unit.

 

Oscar Klefbom (D, EDM)

DraftKings - $5,100, FanDuel - $4,800

Klefbom has been one of the most consistent fantasy D-men over the last few weeks and comes with a value price tag. He has scored three goals and has eight points over his last 10 games with an excellent balance of 16 blocks and 23 shots on goal, producing a very high floor for the price. He also skates over 23 minutes a game with over two minutes of that coming on the Oilers powerplay.

 

Stacking Option

Carolina Hurricanes PP - Jeff Skinner, Derek Ryan, Victor Rask, Lee Stempniak

The Hurricanes offense sits in the bottom 10 of the league this season but gets a boost tonight as they get the pleasure of traveling to Colorado.  They will face an Avalanche team that has lost 21 of their last 24 games and have given up 22 goals over their last six games(3.7 per game). Jump on the top powerplay unit tonight who could get a few extra opportunities as the Avs take the sixth most penalty minutes per game.

Bonus: General NHL DFS Strategy Notes

For cash games, look at players who can contribute to your score even when they are not providing offense. Some examples are guys who take a ton of shots and defensemen who block a lot of shots. Also, look for guys who get power play time. You can find value in players who join a new line due to an injury, or just get a promotion and more ice time. It is also recommended to spread out your exposure to three or four different lines, and not put all your eggs in one basket.

For large field tournaments (GPPs), find payers who have multi-point upside and can grab double-digit fantasy points. If you want to stack the most upside in your forwards, a common strategy is to punt the defense position. This doesn't mean just grab anyone - try and look for a defenseman who will get power play time, or a playing time boost due to an injury. For a contrarian approach, paying up at the defense position can be a great strategy - but it also comes with more risk. GPPs bring a great opportunity for goaltenders in the value price range - you can look for backups on good teams.
