RotoBallers, welcome back to our daily fantasy hockey (NHL DFS) lineup picks for FanDuel and DraftKings. Below you will find our NHL cheat sheet - DFS lineup picks, sleepers and stacks for Thursday, February 9 of the 2016/2017 NHL season.

After a very odd one game, hump day where the sites tried to force a two day late on us, we are back with some normal DFS hockey. We have a big 11 game slate tonight with no teams playing a back to back and just three teams(BUF, STL, TOR) playing a third game in four nights. On top of that, we have eight of the Top 10 offenses in action. Let's dive in and take a look at some of the plays at each position.

NHL Daily League Lineup Picks for Thursday, February 9

For those that are new to this, each day we'll be providing you with a few of our top DFS lineup picks for daily league cash games on FanDuel and DraftKings. Logan Couture (C, SJ)

DraftKings - $6,500, FanDuel - $7,000

Despite losing two straight games, the Sharks still sit atop the Pacific division and get a nice matchup to put up some offense tonight. They face a Bruins team that has fired their coach after losing six of their last 10 games, giving up three or more goals eight times. Couture has been one of the most consistent Sharks lately with points in eight of his last nine games. For the price, his shot volume isn't exactly where I would like it for cash games but he is definitely a high upside GPP play tonight.

Kenny Agostino (W, STL)

DraftKings - $2,600, FanDuel - $3,200

Most of you are probably wondering who the heck I am talking about. That's ok, I just learned who he was a couple days ago myself. Since being called up from the AHL farm team, he has been one of the Blues best players. He has recorded a point in both games so far and led the team in shots in both with nine total. He has also played on the second powerplay unit and is a must play at minimum price on both sites.

Brady Skjei (D, NYR)

DraftKings - $3,200, FanDuel - $3,900

His ice-time came back down to Earth last game at just over 15 minutes but he still managed to pick up two assists in the 4-1 win over the Ducks. Skjei has now recorded a point in three of his last four and five of his last eight games and comes at near minimum price on both sites. Combine him and Agostino to build a high upside GPP lineup tonight.

Stacking Option

Columbus Blue Jackets - Boone Jenner, Cam Atkinson, Brandon Dubinsky

The Blue Jackets have one of the best matchups of the night and make a very high upside GPP stacking option. They open as the second biggest favorite of the night at home to the struggling Canucks and their 20th ranked defense and 22nd ranked penalty kill. Vancouver comes into tonight having lost four straight games and being outscored 17-6 by their opponents. They have also given up at least one powerplay goal in three of those four losses and that is great news for the league leading powerplay in Columbus.

Bonus: General NHL DFS Strategy Notes

For cash games, look at players who can contribute to your score even when they are not providing offense. Some examples are guys who take a ton of shots and defensemen who block a lot of shots. Also, look for guys who get power play time. You can find value in players who join a new line due to an injury, or just get a promotion and more ice time. It is also recommended to spread out your exposure to three or four different lines, and not put all your eggs in one basket.

For large field tournaments (GPPs), find payers who have multi-point upside and can grab double-digit fantasy points. If you want to stack the most upside in your forwards, a common strategy is to punt the defense position. This doesn't mean just grab anyone - try and look for a defenseman who will get power play time, or a playing time boost due to an injury. For a contrarian approach, paying up at the defense position can be a great strategy - but it also comes with more risk. GPPs bring a great opportunity for goaltenders in the value price range - you can look for backups on good teams.
