RotoBallers, welcome back to our daily fantasy hockey (NHL DFS) lineup picks for FanDuel and DraftKings. Below you will find our NHL cheat sheet - DFS lineup picks, sleepers and stacks for Tuesday, February 21 of the 2016/2017 NHL season.

After a quiet two-game Monday slate, we get a big nine-game slate tonight including seven of the Top 10 offenses. There are no teams playing on a back to back but  10 teams playing a third game in four nights. Here they are:

As you can see, five of the teams(LAK, CHI, WPG, NYI, OTT) are also playing that third game on the road. Let's dive in and take a look at a few value plays for tonight.
 

NHL Daily League Lineup Picks for Tuesday, February 21

For those that are new to this, each day we'll be providing you with a few of our top DFS lineup picks for daily league cash games on FanDuel and DraftKings. Jeff Carter (C, LAK)

DraftKings - $7,400, FanDuel - $7,700

There is a lot to like about Jeff Carter tonight. He trails only Sidney Crosby in goals(29) this season and falls outside the Top 5 in salary(at the position) on both sites. The Kings have been struggling lately, losing five of their last six games, but that hasn't affected Carter who has 10 points in his last 10 games with 41 shots on goal. He is safe in all formats vs. the league's worst defensive team.

Jake Guentzel (W, PIT)

DraftKings - $4,600, FanDuel - $4,100

He continues to provide us with big time value in the low $4K range on both sites. He isn't going to light the world on fire with his offense but the opportunity is most definitely there as he is skating on the top line with Sidney Crosby and also getting time with the second powerplay unit. He is safe in all formats.

Josh Morrissey (D, WPG)

DraftKings - $3,300, FanDuel - $3,500

On a bigger slate like tonight it is very important to find that one or low-end value plays that will allow you to roster a top goalie and elite skater. Enter Josh Morrissey. The upside is limited as he has only tallied 15 points all season but he has seen a huge uptick in ice-time over the last two games(23+ minutes). His best source of value is the shot blocks where he has recorded 25 over his last 10 games played.

Stacking Option

Pittsburgh Penguins - Sidney Crosby, Jake Guentzel, Chris Kunitz, Evgeni Malkin(PP)

The Penguins take their #1 overall offense into Carolina tonight to face the Hurricanes and their 20th ranked defense. Pittsburgh isn't the biggest favorite of the night but they are the third highest projected scoring team and could easily end up being the highest. The Canes have struggled lately losing four straight and have given up four or more goals in four of their last five games.

Bonus: General NHL DFS Strategy Notes

For cash games, look at players who can contribute to your score even when they are not providing offense. Some examples are guys who take a ton of shots and defensemen who block a lot of shots. Also, look for guys who get power play time. You can find value in players who join a new line due to an injury, or just get a promotion and more ice time. It is also recommended to spread out your exposure to three or four different lines, and not put all your eggs in one basket.

For large field tournaments (GPPs), find payers who have multi-point upside and can grab double-digit fantasy points. If you want to stack the most upside in your forwards, a common strategy is to punt the defense position. This doesn't mean just grab anyone - try and look for a defenseman who will get power play time, or a playing time boost due to an injury. For a contrarian approach, paying up at the defense position can be a great strategy - but it also comes with more risk. GPPs bring a great opportunity for goaltenders in the value price range - you can look for backups on good teams.
