Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller

5043 articles

You won't find a bigger Cubs fan than myself. Aside from my love of fantasy sports, which includes MLB, NFL and NBA, I own my own animal care business. I graduated from Columbia College in Chicago and currently reside in Chicago, IL. My love of fantasy sports started for me in the early 2000's and I have steadily been active with the same group of friends year in and year out for every league in baseball, basketball and football. I am hoping to help all RotoBaller members with any questions they may have. I consider myself an expert with minor league prospects, as it is a love of mine. I hope to give the best advice I can to the RotoBaller world!

Brandon Morrow Struggles Wednesday

Chicago Cubs closer Brandon Morrow struggled Wednesday evening versus the Phillies. Morrow started off the top of the ninth in a 3-3 tie and quickly gave up a two-run home run to outfielder Dylan Cozens. It was the first time in 71 innings that Morrow had allowed a home run. Morrow finished the game with […]

Avisail Garcia Runs On Wednesday

Chicago White Sox outfielder Avisail Garcia (hamstring) ran the bases on Wednesday. Garcia said he is “feeling great, no pain.” That’s good news for fantasy owners and Garcia will test his hamstring a few more times over the course of the week. Garcia is hoping that he can begin his rehab assignment next week.

Yu Darvish Plays Catch Wednesday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Yu Darvish (triceps) played catch on Wednesday for the second straight day. Darvish still remains with no timetable to return, but it is a good sign to see him throwing. Darvish has been on the 10-day disabled list since May 26 with right triceps tendinitis. Continue to keep him stashed in […]

Drew Smyly To Throw Batting Practice Friday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Drew Smyly (elbow) is scheduled to throw batting practice on Friday. Smyly signed a two-year deal with the Cubs this offseason and is recovering from Tommy John surgery. Smyly isn’t expected to make an impact this year and should be avoided in redraft leagues. He is a name to remember for […]

Addison Russell Plans To Takes Swings On Wednesday

Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell (finger) remains out of the lineup on Wednesday. Russell has been absent since Sunday and underwent an MRI on his finger Tuesday. Russell said on Wednesday that he is going to take some swings. He remains day-to-day. Second baseman Javier Baez will once again move over to shortstop with Ben […]

Joakim Soria Gets The Save On Tuesday

Chicago White Sox reliever Joakim Soria picked up his fifth save on Tuesday. Nate Jones had a disappointing outing in Game 1 of their doubleheader on Tuesday and that led to manager Rick Renteria going with Soria on Tuesday to record the final four outs in the second game. Jones pitched in the eighth inning […]

Yu Darvish Throws Tuesday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Yu Darvish (triceps) threw lightly on Tuesday for the first time since being placed on the disabled list. The team still does not have a timeline for when Darvish may return, but they should have a better idea of that this weekend.

Addison Russell Undergoes MRI Tuesday

Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell (finger) underwent a MRI Tuesday on his middle finger. Russell is out of the lineup Tuesday and Javier Baez will play shortstop. More should be known on how long Russell will miss after he receives the results from his MRI.

Luis Robert Will Report To Class-A Kannapolis

Chicago White Sox outfield prospect Luis Robert will report to Class-A Kannapolis on Tuesday. An injury to his thumb delayed Robert’s start to the 2018 season. Robert is ranked as a top-25 prospect and even though he is a few years away from the big leagues, dynasty owners should take notice.

Addison Russell Sitting Tuesday With Finger Sprain

Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell (finger) will sit Tuesday after he suffered a sprain to his middle finger on Sunday. Russell is considered day-to-day. Ben Zobrist will be at second base Tuesday while second baseman Javier Baez will slide over to shortstop. The Cubs face Zach Eflin Tuesday, and their entire lineup is worth using […]

Carlos Rodon Expected To Return This Weekend

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Carlos Rodon (shoulder) is with the White Sox in Minnesota and is expected to return to the team this weekend versus the Red Sox. Rodon should be benched in a tough battle right out of the gate, but he should be owned in all leagues, as he offers high-strikeout potential.

Kevan Smith Promoted By White Sox

Chicago White Sox catcher Kevan Smith has been promoted to the big league club on Tuesday. Smith hit a respectable .283 over 276 at-bats for the White Sox in 2017, and he figures to split time with Omar Narvaez. Smith holds no significant fantasy value.

Jeff Samardzija Plays Catch On Monday

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija (shoulder) played catch on Monday. Samardzija was placed on the disabled list last weekend and it’s a good sign to see him already making progress. Samardzija still is without a timetable to return and Dereck Rodriguez will make at least one more start while Samardzija is sidelined.

Mac Williamson Sitting On Monday

San Francisco Giants outfielder Mac Williamson will rest Monday evening versus the Diamondbacks. Williamson is hitting .226 with no home runs since his return from the disabled list. Hunter Pence will replace Williamson and bat seventh. Pence is worth a dart throw in DFS, as there are not many games Monday and opposing pitcher Zack […]

Kevan Smith Likely To Be Promoted Tuesday

Chicago White Sox catcher Kevan Smith is likely to be promoted Tuesday, as the club has demoted backup catcher Alfredo Gonzalez to Triple-A Charlotte on Monday. Smith could split time with Omar Narvaez and should only be considered in the deepest AL-only or two-catcher leagues.

Matt Davidson Activated From Disabled List On Monday

Chicago White Sox designated hitter Matt Davidson (back) has been activated from the disabled list on Monday. Davidson missed the minimum amount of time with back tightness. Unless you are an owner looking for home runs, Davidson can be avoided in most formats. Infielder Matt Skole has been sent down to Triple-A in a corresponding […]

Carlos Rodon Pitches Well In Fourth Rehab Start

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Carlos Rodon (shoulder) performed well in his fourth rehab start on Sunday. Rodon threw 92 pitches and allowed six hits on two runs while striking out eight over five innings. Rodon’s next scheduled start would be Friday, but manager Rick Renteria would not comment on if Rodon will be pitching […]

Carter Kiebomm Heating Up

Washington Nationals shortstop prospect Carter Kiebomm hit a home run for the third time in four games Sunday afternoon for Class A Advanced Potomac. Kiebomm, 20, is having a nice season and is now hitting .289 with nine home runs and 40 RBI. Kiebomm was the Nationals first round pick 2016 and hasn't disappointed so […]

Sixto Sanchez Throws Shutout Sunday

Philadelphia Phillies pitching prospect Sixto Sanchez threw his first shutout of the season on Sunday. Sanchez went seven innings and allowed two hits, two walks and struck out five for Class A Advanced Clearwater. The 19-year-old is now 4-3 with a 2.51 ERA on the season with a 1.07 WHIP. Sanchez is still a few […]

Hunter Greene Beginning To Turn His Season Around

Cinncinatti Reds pitching prospect Hunter Greene threw five innings of one-run ball Sunday for Class A Dayton. Greene also recorded eight strikeouts and one walk and allowed two hits. After struggling with 13.97 ERA in his first five starts of the season, Greene has now allowed one run or less in three of his last […]

Addison Russell Leaves Game With Left Finger Contusion

Updating an earlier report, Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell left Sunday’s game in the sixth inning with a left finger contusion. Russell was replaced in the lineup by Ben Zobrist. Russell is considered day-to-day. If Russell is forced to miss any games, second baseman Javier Baez would likely play shortstop with Zobrist playing second base.

Johnny Cueto Could Return Before July 1

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Johnny Cueto (elbow) could return before July 1 according to manager Bruce Bochy. Cueto threw from 120 feet Sunday. He felt so good that he even did some light throwing from the pitchers mound. Cueto has been out since May 1 with a right elbow strain.

Addison Russell Leaves Sunday’s Game Early

Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell was removed from Sunday’s game in the bottom of the sixth inning. There was no mention of an injury and there should be more known on his status shortly. Ben Zobrist replaced Addison Russell in the lineup with second baseman Javier Baez moving over to shortstop. Russell finished Sunday 1-for-2.

Buster Posey Returns To Sunday’s Lineup Versus Phillies

San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey will return to the Giants lineup Sunday after sitting out Saturday with an elbow contusion. The injury was never considered serious and Posey will bat second. Posey remains one of the best catchers in all fantasy formats despite his low home run total.

Michael Kopech Struggles Saturday

Chicago White Sox top pitching prospect Michael Kopech had a rough outing Saturday for Triple-A Charlotte. In two innings he allowed seven runs on five hits. He also allowed four walks while striking out two hitters. Kopech has struggled of late and his ERA was raised to 4.89 after the rough outing. He remains one […]

Brandon Belt Lands On 10-Day Disabled List With Appendicitis

San Francisco Giants first baseman Brandon Belt (appendicitis) has been placed on the 10-day disabled list. Belt left Tuesday’s game early and was rushed to the hospital. He had his appendix removed late Friday and was resting on Saturday. There is no clear timetable for his return and Pablo Sandoval will replace Belt at first […]

Buster Posey Sidelined With Elbow Contusion

San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey was sidelined Saturday with an elbow contusion that he suffered after being hit Friday. Posey is considered day-to-day and was replaced by Nick Hundley Saturday.

Alen Hanson Activated From Disabled List Saturday

San Francisco Giants second baseman Alen Hanson was activated from the disabled list Saturday. Hanson had been sidelined since May 13 with a hamstring injury. He could be avoided for now as Joe Panik returned Friday and will be the team’s everyday second baseman.

Hunter Pence Activated From Disabled List On Saturday

San Francisco Giants outfielder Hunter Pence was activated from the disabled list Saturday. Pence missed over a month with a right thumb sprain. Pence changed his swing during his rehab and was seeing good results for Triple-A Sacramento. Manager Bruce Bochy stated that Mac Williamson will be the team’s everyday left fielder and that leaves […]

Javier Baez Not Starting Saturday

Chicago Cubs second baseman Javier Baez will sit Saturday versus the Mets. It’s just a routine day off for Baez who is replaced at second base by Ben Zobrist. Zobrist will bat first Saturday and has been hitting the ball well lately. Baez should be back in the lineup Sunday.
