Jared Cook is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup option for tight ends. Target him as a free agent add off waivers for Week 2 of the 2021 NFL season.

ANALYSIS: Jared was just the third-best Cook in fantasy leagues to have played through Sunday games. Dalvin and Brandin (yes, he's Cooks, but still) were much better, but Jared Cook's 10.6 PPR points against Washington were good enough to make Cook a TE1 on the kickoff week slate of games (pending MNF). When it comes to tight ends, anything above 10 PPR points is a god-sent gift. Believe me. Last season the cutoff for TE1 sat on an average of 11.0 PPR points while the TE2 realm was at a putrid 6.5. Nothing to hate here.
In a game in which Justin Herbert threw all of 47 passes and hit receivers in 31 of them, watching Cook getting 8 targets (17% share) and hauling in 5 of those for 56 receiving yards wasn't bad at all. That was even better if taking Cook's snaps into account, as he barely broke the 50% mark staying on the field for 47 plays and only 58% of all offensive snaps.
Cook is a solid veteran at the position with TE1 upside if he keeps getting looks throughout the season. Cook barely misses games, and although he didn't have a terrific season in 2020 (TE18, 8.5 FPPG in PPR leagues) he could bounce back as a member of the Chargers in 2021. Last season, in the seven games in which he played more than 50% of the Saints snaps he averaged 11.5 PPR points while only falling below 11 twice, topping at 16.1 in Week 8. That's the ceiling, and with a quarterback like Herbert slinging the rock, there are real chances he can hit it at some point.
