Hunter Greene Picks Up First Triple-A Win
Hunter Greene mixed in more offspeed pitches to complement his triple-digit heat on Wednesday to pick up his first victory with Triple-A Louisville. The No. 55 overall prospect struck out six and gave up two hits while walking three in his five scoreless innings of work. Greene reached 104 mph with his fastball in his last start, and he topped out at 102 mph on Wednesday while throwing 85 pitches (52 for strikes). The 21-year-old struck out eight but also allowed four solo home runs in four innings in his Triple-A debut last week. The Reds No. 2 prospect is quickly learning that he cannot get by with triple-digit heat alone. Overall this year, he's 6-1 with a 2.34 ERA in 50 innings. Wednesday was the seventh time in nine starts he's allowed two or fewer runs, and his 74 K's are tied for the second-most in the minors. Greene missed all of 2019 after having Tommy John surgery and spent last summer at the alternate training site. He's one of the best pitching prospects in baseball, but we're unlikely to see him at the major league level until at least 2022.
