Jorge Lopez has gone over this total twice on the season and has not reached it in any of his previous three starts. He will be facing a Red Sox team that is only striking out at a rate of 18.8% vs. right-handers over the previous 10 days, which is fifth-best in baseball. They are also posting a 133 wRC+ over that span, which is third-best in baseball. Lopez also faced the Red Sox on April 11th and only managed to strike out four.
Martin Perez will be facing an Orioles team that is only striking out at a rate of 16.4% against left-handers over the previous 10 days, which is second-best in baseball. While Perez has gone over this total three times in 2021, they each came against opponents that have a propensity to strike out against lefties in the Rays, Rangers, and Tigers. Baltimore has been pretty solid and a less than feels like the right play here.

Kyle Gibson more than 5.5 strikeouts and Alex Wood less than 5.5 strikeouts
The Giants have struck out quite a bit on the season against right-handers as they have consistently ranked near the top of the league in 2021. Over the previous 10 days, the Giants rank fifth-worst with a 28.9% rate. Gibson has struck out over this total in three of his seven starts, but the starts he failed to reach it were against solid strikeout teams such as the Red Sox and Royals. The Giants are clearly not those teams and this game will also be played in an NL park, which could lead to an added strikeout or two of the pitcher.
The Rangers have been solid against left-handers lately as they are posting the 12th-best K rate over the previous 10 days with a rate of 21.1%. They are also posting the third-best wRC+ mark of 153, which could lead Alex Wood into some trouble in this one. He has gone over this total in two of his four starts, but those were against the Marlins and Rockies. These Rangers have been swinging well against lefties lately and that could certainly continue tonight.
