Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (oblique) opened the season on the injured list with an oblique strain. According to Royals manager Mike Matheny, Mondesi is still taking things light this week. This likely means Mondesi still has at least a week or two before he's ready to make his 2021 debut. With Mondesi sidelined, Nicky Lopez has started at shortstop for each of the team's six games. Lopez should continue to be the team's everyday shortstop while Mondesi remains out.
