Saints wide receiver (WR) Tre'Quan Smith is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup to target as a free agent addition for Week 8 of the 2020 NFL season.

ANALYSIS: The Saints have had a lot of injuries at the receiver position. With Michael Thomas dealing with a hamstring issue, Emmanuel Sanders on the reserve-COVID list, and Marquez Callaway sustaining an ankle injury, someone will step up big time. That person will likely be Smith, who already has 20 receptions and 248 yards on the season.
Callaway caught eight of 10 targets last week for 75 yards, but with him now banged up Smith could see that target share. Smith has already had two games of six or more targets this season, and he has another with two touchdown catches. He has also been on the field for 84.1 percent of snaps, indicating that even if his teammates return quickly he can still be valuable.
Smith's efficiency has been stellar, and an increased target share would lead to breakout performances. His catch rate is fourth-best at his position, and his QB rating when targeted is 134.7, ninth-best in the NFL. His production premium, an overall measure of efficiency, is also ninth-best among receivers, and his 2.27 fantasy points per target are 19th best. Smith has made the most of his opportunities thus far in 2020; having even more targets would make his talent, and fantasy value, even more obvious.
Some of Smith's teammates may come back this week, and some may not. If two of Thomas, Sanders, and Callaway can't suit up, Smith has a real shot at a WR2 finish. With him rostered in just 71 percent of leagues, this sort of value can not be overlooked. Even when everyone comes back, he could be a WR4 with the type of efficiency he's shown. Make adding Smith a priority this week, then plug him into your lineup and watch him produce.
