Chargers running back (RB) Justin Jackson is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup to target as a free agent addition for Week 6 of the 2020 NFL season.

ANALYSIS: The Chargers backfield was always going to be manned by Austin Ekeler after his 2019 explosion. With the departure of Melvin Gordon came the arrival of rookie Joshua Kelley, though, so the backfield seemed to be on track to be shared among those two once more. Until Ekeler fell down injured in W4 and... Kelly put on a bit of a dud replacing him and then Week 5 arrived with a surprisingly efficient Justin Jackson leading all Chargers RBs in opportunities and touches.
Justin Jackson played in Week 1 but was off the field until Week 4, when he rushed the ball just 6 times for 9 yards and caught his couple of targets for 23. Yesterday, though, he rushed the ball 15 times for 71 yards (Kelley finished with 29 yards on 11 carries) and Jackson also added 23 yards catching 5-of-6 targets. All in all, his 14.4 points topped Kelley's season-best mark of 13.3 back in Week 2.
Ekeler will remain sidelined and in the IR at least until Week 8 (LA is on a bye next weekend, though), so Jackson will keep getting opportunities. Although he won't be playing next week, the three games after the bay are all against 23rd-or-worst ranked defenses against RBs (@MIA, JAX, LV), so chances are he puts on big points facing the Dolphins and keeps the RB2 role (at least) versus Jacksonville and Vegas.
If you have room to stash Jackson for a week, I'd advise doing so in virtually every league. We'll have time to see how Ekeler comes back, how his return affects the roles, etc. in due time. For now, secure your Jackson shares.
