ANALYSIS: The big knock on Robert Woods in 2019 was his lack of touchdowns (just two), but despite that, he still finished as the WR17 in PPR leagues. Woods has never been a big scorer, with a career-high of six touchdowns in 2018, but 2019 was the second straight season that he saw 130 targets. And do you know what is very important in fantasy football? Correct: volume. Woods finished with a career-high 139 targets last year, which ranked eighth in the NFL, and he was able to catch 90 of those, which ranked eighth too among wideouts.
Los Angeles Rams wide receivers Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp each caught 90+ passes for over 1,000 yards last year. However, this year, they could be in line for even more production. This offseason, the Rams lost Brandin Cooks, who accounted for 42 receptions for 583 yards last year as well as Todd Gurley, who compiled over 1,000 yards from scrimmage, including 31 receptions.
The Rams didn't do much to replace these two players. Josh Reynolds will step into a bigger role at receiver while rookie Cam Akers and second-year running back Darrell Henderson Jr. will fill in for Gurley.
He's still on the right side of 30 at 28 years old, and while Woods isn't the sexiest fantasy commodity, he just gets it done. In a highly-productive Rams offense, the ceiling is very high for both Woods, who will be heavily featured this year and could provide WR1 numbers if he stays healthy.
Woods is a lock to finish the year at WR2 level with upside to reach WR1 production, projecting to 229+ PPR points over the full 2020 season per PFF, which would rank WR14. His ADP, though, is currently WR19 and around 47 overall. If we're honest, it is not crazy to target Woods with a pick inside the first three rounds instead of waiting until the end of the fourth if you don't want to be snipped. Draft yourself a league-winning player early; you won't regret it.
