The Miami Marlins selected Ball State pitcher Kyle Nicolas with the 61st overall pick in the second round in the 2020 MLB draft on Thursday. Nicolas fanned 17 hitters in seven one-hit innings against Sacred Heart in his final collegiate start and is the nephew of former NFL quarterback Todd Blackledge. The right-hander has one of the best fastballs in college baseball, but he needs some more polish. His slider can also be overpowering with sharp break to it. The spin rates of Nicolas' pitches have really excited scouts. The downside here is that the 21-year-old has had trouble keeping his mechanics consistent and showed little feel for his pitches before this spring. Relieving could be in his future.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerRead More News
