Yankees Could Land Yu Darvish At Reasonable Price
With starting pitcher Gerrit Cole being traded to the Houston Astros on Saturday, the New York Yankees are very much interested in signing free-agent starting pitcher Yu Darvish, according to two sources. The stalled free-agent market gives the Yankees a real chance to land Darvish at a "reasonable" price. New York seems to think it's possible that they could land Darvish for five years between $80-90 million. Still, at a reduced price, the Japanese right-hander will almost certainly put the Yanks over the luxury-tax threshold, which is something general manager Brian Cashman said the team won't do. However, if the Yankees do sign Darvish, they'd have to move significant salary in a trade, and outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury is the one player they'd like to deal. He is still owed three years and $68 million, including a $5 million buyout on his 2021 option year.
