FanDuel DFS – MLB Lineup Picks, Sleepers and Advice for 8/9/15

Below are my FanDuel lineup picks for Sunday, August 9th. My goal with these DFS picks, as always, is to try to choose players who will outperform their expectations. These players can be high-cost players, or they can be sleepers, but we are always looking for players that have a chance to return the greatest value on FanDuel. Additionally, since the weekends generally have many afternoon and night games, I’ll make an effort to distribute my picks to cover all the timeslots going forward so that if you are playing an afternoon/night only league this article will still be useful.

Daily fantasy baseball leagues (DFS) are becoming the thing to do, and here at RotoBaller we are excited to help our users build their bankrolls. I’ll be covering FanDuel lineup picks, sleepers and general advice every Saturday and Sunday. I’ll also be putting my money where my mouth is by entering my final lineup (at the bottom of the article) into one of FanDuel’s many daily fantasy contests, so that RotoBaller users can compete against me.

Editor’s Note: If you play on FanDuel, you should also check out RotoBaller’s DFS Partner DraftKings – they’rehosting a one-day Fantasy Baseball league tonight. It’s FREE to enter and pays out $10,000 in cash prizes!

Sign up Now and we’ll give you free access to RotoBaller’s Premium DFS Lineup Picks and Tools (a $29.99 value). You’ll also receive a 100% bonus on your first DraftKings deposit.

Last Sunday’s Review

Entry: $1

Winnings: $0

Saturdays For the Season: +$2.63

Pick Highlights: Jose Fernandez was incredible. 10 K's in just 6 innings, putting up 16 points without even grabbing the win. After that it was all downhill. Amazingly, only the Mets' players in my lineup did much of anything. Duda kept crushing homers and sleeper of the day Daniel Murphy stayed hot against Jordan Zimmermann, putting up 6.5 points.

Relationship Status: “We need a change” -- The past few weeks, I've relied to heavily on history versus opposing pitchers. It seems that while these things are fun to write about, the sample size is generally just too small. Going forward, I'll be favoring split stats and pedigree.

DFS Starting Pitchers To Consider for FanDuel

Corey Kluber (SP, CLE) - $11,000

As everyone knows, Kluber burst on to the scene last year and unexpectedly won the AL Cy Young. Well, most people would tell you that he hasn't been nearly as good this season and that analysis would have a lot to do with his large increase in ERA (3.60 in 2015, 2.44 2014). However, the ERA doesn't tell the full story here. Is Kluber having as magical a season as 2014? No, not quite. That being said, the peripheral numbers here are still very strong. He has a 2.61 FIP and is striking out 9.7 batters per 9. These are not far off of his 2.35 and 10.3 numbers from last season. He's still capable of being dominant and is averaging over 7 innings per start this year.

Bartolo Colon (SP, NYM) - $7,100

The Mets are on one of those runs where the pitchers just seem to be building off each other's performances. C0lon is coming off an 8 inning gem, his second 8 inning performance in his last three starts. Add in the fact that the Mets offense is finally starting to put up some runs and Colon has a great chance to pitch deep into the game and get a win over the Rays.

DFS Infielders To Consider for FanDuel

Todd Frazier (3B, CIN) - $3,100

Frazier is going through a bit of a post All Star slump (HR Derby curse?). The bright side is that the slump has made Frazier much more affordable. Today is a great day for Frazier to break out of it as he is facing left hander Patrick Corbin in Arizona. Not only is this a great hitting environment (T-4 best in the league according to FanGraphs park factors), but Frazier also crushes left handed pitching. Heading into the weekend, Frazier has a .973 OPS against lefties with 11 homers in just 103 at-bats.

Francisco Cervelli (C, PIT) - $2,600

Cervelli has crushed left-handed pitching this season in his 51 at-bats. Going into the weekend he has a .392 batting average against lefties. He faces the funky left-handed delivery of Alex Wood tonight. At this price, he has to be considered as your catcher.

Mark Teixeira (1B, NYY) - $4,200

Teixeira is enjoying a truly resurgent season. He has 30 homers after a Friday night bomb, which tied him with Mickey Mantle for the most ever 30 HR seasons by a switch hitter. While Friday's homer came from the right side of the plate, he'll be hitting lefty on Sunday against right-hander Marco Estrada. Of Teixeira's 30 homers, 24 have come against right handers. He's at home with the short porch and he's my #1 bet to go deep on Sunday.

DFS Outfielders To Consider for FanDuel

Lorenzo Cain (OF, KC) - $3,600

I'm falling in love with putting Cain in my lineup everyday. He scores in so many ways it's tough to keep him off the board. He rips extra base hits (11 homers, 6 triples, 25 doubles), scores runs (69), and steals bases (19). Hitting in the middle of the lineup doesn't hurt his value either, especially when facing lefties against whom he has triple slashed .360/.429/.608 this season (Cain faces lefty Jose Quintana today).

A.J. Pollock (OF, ARI) - $3,700

Much like Cain, Pollock can do a little bit of everything. In fact, their numbers entering the weekend were almost identical. Pollock hits well (11 homers, 3 triples, 24 doubles), gets on base and scores (69 runs), and steals bases (24). He's at home today where he thrives and faces a mediocre pitcher in Anthony DeScalfani.

FanDuel Sleeper Value of the Day

Stephen Piscotty (OF, STL) - $2,300

It seems like every guy the Cards bring up delivers. Piscotty has came in, hit .300+, played a bunch of different positions and provided great flexibility to the Cardinals lineup. He was a top 100 prospect for almost all outlets these past few seasons and seems to be delivering on that promise.
