Will Chris Godwin start for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when he returns? Quincy Milton breaks down the Week 11 Chris Godwin return timeline and fantasy football outlook.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin appears to be nearing a return from his leg injury. He is practicing in a limited fashion, which usually signals that a player should return soon, despite there being no timetable for Godwin at this time. That is a welcome sight for quarterback Baker Mayfield and fantasy managers.

In Godwin's absence, the Buccaneers have discovered a superstar in Emeka Egbuka. Although he was slowed by his own injury for a couple of weeks, Egbuka has earned serious volume en route to 40 receptions for 677 yards and six touchdowns. However, Egbuka has only caught 52.6% of his passes this season, in part due to the fact that he often receives blanket coverage.
Godwin's return to the lineup will alleviate some of that coverage, but who will be the true No. 1 in this offense? Godwin has the trust of the coaching staff and Mayfield, but Egbuka has been excellent as a rookie. Let's check it out.
Will Chris Godwin Start For The Buccaneers When He Returns?
Godwin and Egbuka have only played two games together this season. Godwin notched just 26 receiving yards in those games, but he earned a whopping 14 targets. He had stepped right back into the workhorse role he enjoyed in 2024. By that point, Egbuka had emerged as a serious threat, and questions around who would be the No. 1 wide receiver in this offense were already starting to emerge.
The last time we saw Godwin, Mike Evans had just left the picture. With Evans out due to a collarbone injury, the entire receiving burden has fallen on Egbuka for the most part. Egbuka has youth and juice on his side; he seems likely to remain the No. 1 wide receiver in this offense.
Fortunately, Godwin and Egbuka occupy different portions of the field. Godwin is more of a slot receiver, while Egbuka can succeed both inside and out. As such, both players should receive plenty of targets in their respective roles.
Still, Egbuka's performance to this point is difficult to ignore. He brings an explosive element to the offense that Godwin simply cannot replicate. He is the player that opposing defenses are likely to be the most concerned about, and his role in the offense should remain unchanged upon Godwin's return.

Chris Godwin Fantasy Football Outlook
Godwin's fantasy outlook is difficult to project. He is 29 years old, coming off a serious leg injury that he aggravated this season. He is a savvy veteran, and he should receive plenty of volume, but it feels like the days of Godwin having a high ceiling are gone.
At this point in the fantasy season, you are looking for any help you can get. Do not expect Godwin to come in and provide a massive boost for your team. However, Godwin should be a solid depth piece as you head into the fantasy playoffs. Do not be discouraged by Egbuka taking over this wide receiving corps; Godwin should still deliver some fantasy value in 2025.
