San Jose Sharks left wing Egor Afanasyev (undisclosed) is expected to start the season on Injured Reserve, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports. The Russian forward was among the goal-scorers in Friday's 4-1 preseason win against the Vegas Golden Knights, but didn't play in Saturday's preseason finale against the Utah Mammoth. Afanasyev is taking a second crack at the NHL after inking a one-year, $800k contract with the Sharks. He was limited to one goal in 19 appearances with the Nashville Predators before returning to Russia for the 2024-25 campaign. In 53 KHL outings with CSKA Moscow, Afanasyev had seven goals and 21 points. The 24-year-old obviously has some talent, but it's unlikely he'll have a major impact in San Jose.--Taavi PailkRead More News
