Quarterback injuries are becoming all too common in the NFL this season. Brock Purdy (toe), J.J. McCarthy (ankle), and Joe Burrow (toe) are just a few of the notable names who have, or are set to, miss substantial time this season. The injuries are affecting the playoff chances of several teams and impacting the quality of some of the games each week.

On the bright side, several exciting young quarterbacks are taking over for veterans early in the season. Jaxson Dart had a monster debut for New York in Week 4, and Dillon Gabriel is taking over for Cleveland in Week 5. These young players provide a potential glimpse into the future quality of the NFL.

Now that we are a month into the season, we are learning the truth about NFL quarterbacks. Some players have taken significant strides forward. Others have regressed. These fluctuations are part of the parity of the NFL. As fans, we can only hope that our team's starting quarterbacks stay consistent.

No. 32: Cameron Ward - Tennessee Titans

Cameron Ward and the Titans continue to struggle mightily. Ward himself needs to be better, but he has almost no help around him. The play calling has not been great, and Ward's receivers are not offering any reprieve for the young signal caller. Ward's postgame comments this past Sunday summarize everyone's frustrations.

No. 31: Dillon Gabriel - Cleveland Browns

Joe Flacco is out and Gabriel is in. The rookie quarterback out of Oregon is set to make his first start after relieving Flacco in two blowout losses this season. Gabriel does not present a lot of upside for the Browns, but Flacco has turned the ball over eight times, and a change was necessary.

No. 30: Justin Fields - New York Jets

Justin Fields continues to demonstrate his playmaking ability, but it has not yet translated into wins for the Jets. The Jets remain winless as we head into Week 5. Fields is unlikely to be on the hot seat yet, but head coach Aaron Glenn will come under scrutiny if Fields' performance does not substantially improve.

No. 29: Spencer Rattler - New Orleans Saints

Spencer Rattler continues to perform admirably for the Saints. The Saints remain winless, but Rattler has fought hard with an offense that lacks talent around him. At minimum, Rattler continues to demonstrate to the rest of the league that he belongs in the NFL.

No. 28: Jaxson Dart - New York Giants

Dart got off to a great start on Sunday. He led the Giants to a win over the Chargers and was a solid playmaker. The sledding will be tough moving forward without top wideout Malik Nabers, who suffered a torn ACL. However, Dart's debut was encouraging.

No. 27: Bryce Young - Carolina Panthers

Bryce Young cannot find any consistency this year. He played well in a Week 3 blowout win over the Falcons. However, his other games have included a lot of poor play with a couple of solid quarters mixed in. Young needs to start playing better now that there is a decent structure around him.

No. 26: Jake Browning - Cincinnati Bengals

Jake Browning has played terribly since taking over for Joe Burrow in Week 2. It is not all Browning's fault, as the Bengals have the worst offensive line in the league by a long shot. Browning is not receiving a lot of help in the way of play-calling, either. The Bengals appear to be interested in throwing man-to-man go routes to Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins on the outside.

No. 25: Carson Wentz - Minnesota Vikings

Carson Wentz provided the Carson Wentz experience in Week 4. The Vikings struggled on offense in the first half against the Steelers, but Wentz attempted to rally them back in the second half. Wentz's performance resulted in second-half garbage-time stats. On the bright side, Wentz is not creating a quarterback controversy for once McCarthy returns.

No. 24: Mac Jones - San Francisco 49ers

Mac Jones is back in the saddle for the 49ers for at least Week 5. Purdy's toe injury has been too much to handle of late. The 49ers' season is beginning to unravel a bit right in front of our eyes.

No. 23: Michael Penix Jr. - Atlanta Falcons

The Michael Penix Jr. ride has been an absolute roller coaster this season. He bounced back from a goose egg in Week 3 to deliver a solid performance in Week 4. Penix is entering a Week 5 bye week that could provide a great reset for the young player. If the Falcons come out in Week 6 with a stellar offensive performance, it could be time to put this offense on notice.

No. 22: Geno Smith - Las Vegas Raiders

Geno Smith has certainly played like a bottom-half quarterback this season. He is throwing far too many interceptions, and he is actively hurting the Raiders' offense. The man who once led the league in completion percentage in Seattle has been far from accurate over the last few weeks. The Raiders need improvements from Smith, who was supposed to provide quarterback stability for the next few seasons.

No. 21: Trevor Lawrence - Jacksonville Jaguars

Trevor Lawrence has been a solid game manager this season, but we have not watched him take a step as an elite player or even a great player. Still, the Jaguars find themselves at 3-1 with a solid running game and a good defense. As the games get tougher, we will get a better glimpse at any improvements Lawrence has made.

No. 20: Caleb Williams - Chicago Bears

Caleb Williams followed up a stellar Week 3 with an average to below-average Week 4. Like many young quarterbacks in the NFL, Williams is still working to establish consistency. There is a lot of football ahead of us, and Williams has indeed shown improvements relative to his rookie season, but he still has a ways to go.

No. 19: C.J. Stroud - Houston Texans

C.J. Stroud and the Texans' offense finally found success in Week 4 against a Titans team that is completely imploding. Stroud is still not putting up the stellar numbers he enjoyed as a rookie, but his outing this past weekend was encouraging. The Texans sure need this version of Stroud if they are to compete in the AFC South.

No. 18: Drake Maye - New England Patriots

The Drake Maye drumbeat is growing louder and louder. Maye continues to play solid football for the Patriots this year. He has not been perfect, but given the injury to Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, Maye has easily been the best second-year quarterback this season.

No. 17: Tua Tagovailoa - Miami Dolphins

Tua Tagovailoa found success in Week 4 once again against the Jets. Unfortunately, Tagovailoa lost his No. 1 wide receiver, Tyreek Hill, to a horrific knee injury. Hill had just gotten going again, and Tagovailoa was reaping the benefits. The loss of Hill muddies the waters for Tagovailoa's outlook for the rest of the season.

No. 16: Aaron Rodgers - Pittsburgh Steelers

Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers continue to bump along. They are sitting at the top of the AFC North, and the offense has done enough to inspire confidence for the rest of the season. Rodgers and wide receiver DK Metcalf are also improving their chemistry.

No. 15: Kyler Murray - Arizona Cardinals

Kyler Murray and Marvin Harrison Jr.'s connection still leaves a lot to be desired. However, their comeback attempt at the end of their Week 4 game against Seattle inspired confidence. For now, Murray continues to play like a middle-of-the-road quarterback for the Cardinals, which will keep them at the bottom of the NFC West standings.

No. 14: Bo Nix - Denver Broncos

Bo Nix found his groove in Week 4 against the Bengals. He could do whatever he wanted with both his arms and his legs. Nix also threw several beautiful deep balls in the game. Some were dropped, and some were completed. This version of Nix can take the Broncos a long way.

No. 13: Daniel Jones - Indianapolis Colts

Daniel Jones played a mostly solid game in Week 4 against the Rams, but he made a couple of mental mistakes that exposed some of his flaws. Jones should continue to play at a high level, but he has benefited from not having to play catch-up in most games. As teams get more tape on Jones, they could find a way to slow him down.

No. 12: Dak Prescott - Dallas Cowboys

Dak Prescott decided that he did not need CeeDee Lamb to perform like a top-tier quarterback in Week 4. He led the Cowboys to a 40-40 tie with the Packers on Sunday night. With Prescott clearly healthy, this offense has a chance to be special. It is just a matter of whether the defense can support Prescott.

No. 11: Sam Darnold - Seattle Seahawks

Sam Darnold continues to demonstrate that his 2024 season in Minnesota was no fluke. He is marching the Seahawks' offense up and down the field, and he is making excellent throws that not every NFL quarterback can make. Darnold should continue to find success in Week 5 when the Seahawks host Tampa Bay.

No. 10: Jordan Love - Green Bay Packers

Jordan Love followed up a dud of a game in Week 3 with an absolute monster game in Week 4. The Packers went toe-to-toe with the Cowboys in the second-highest scoring tie game of all time. Although the Packers should have won the game, Love bounced back in a huge way.

No. 9: Jayden Daniels - Washington Commanders

Daniels will be back in the saddle in Week 5 after missing the last two games. The Commanders went 1-1 without Daniels, but they are missing an explosive element to their offense. Daniels will be a welcome sight for a Commanders team looking to make a big push in the NFC for the rest of the season.

No. 8: Baker Mayfield - Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Baker Mayfield was unable to lead the Bucs to another close win in Week 4. He made a couple of mental errors that cost Tampa Bay against the Eagles. Mayfield and company will travel to play Seattle this coming week. It is going to be a massive game for both teams. Given how well Seattle's defense is playing, Mayfield will have his work cut out for him.

No. 7: Matthew Stafford - Los Angeles Rams

Matthew Stafford continues to get it done as the Rams' quarterback. When this team is in a "gotta have it" situation, Stafford delivers. He led them to a game-winning drive over the Colts on Sunday and has positioned this team as a strong force in the NFC West.

No. 6: Jared Goff - Detroit Lions

Jared Goff and the Lions are rolling offensively. They drew a tough matchup against the Browns in Week 4, but had no problem handling Cleveland. There should be no worries left about this team and this offense. They will be fine, and they are right back into pole position in the NFC North.

No. 5: Lamar Jackson - Baltimore Ravens

Lamar Jackson will miss his first game of the 2025 season. Jackson injured his hamstring in the Ravens' Week 4 loss to the Chiefs. Even before the injury occurred, Jackson was not having a very good game. The Ravens are in a tough spot at this point in the season. Hopefully, Jackson can return in the near future.

No. 4: Justin Herbert - Los Angeles Chargers

Justin Herbert had a tough day on Sunday. The Chargers' offensive line is completely depleted, and the Giants' defensive line had a field day with them. Still, Herbert is an elite quarterback surrounded by great weapons. If anyone can bounce back, it is Herbert.

No. 3: Jalen Hurts - Philadelphia Eagles

Jalen Hurts and the Eagles squeaked out a win against the Buccaneers in Week 4. The passing game was entirely out of sync in the second half of this game. Although the Eagles are sitting at 4-0, they are not sustainably winning games. Sooner or later, Hurts will need to put on his cape for this team.

No. 2: Patrick Mahomes - Kansas City Chiefs

Patrick Mahomes is creeping back up this list after stringing together some great performances. He is doing everything he can to will the Chiefs to victory, and they suddenly find themselves at 2-2. If Mahomes keeps playing like this, he will end up in the MVP conversation once again.

No. 1: Josh Allen - Buffalo Bills

Josh Allen put together another nice performance on paper, but the Saints actually had the Bills' number for much of this game. Still, that is the benefit of having the reigning MVP. Even Allen's average games are still great.
