NFL MVP Power Rankings: Top 10 Candidates Ahead of Week 3

Even though we only have two weeks of NFL action in the books, it is never too early to start looking at the MVP race. Which players have given themselves an early lead? Who has made a surprising push to the top 10? Drop your MVP prediction in the comments! Let’s dive in!

Daniel Jones - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire Pickups

No. 10: Daniel Jones, QB - Indianapolis Colts

The former Giant has looked like an entirely new QB since joining the Colts. Through two games, Jones has led the Colts to a perfect 2-0 record and performed at an elite level while doing so. Jones has tallied 588 passing yards with a 2:0 TD:INT and has added an impressive three rushing scores with 28 yards on the ground. Jones is leading one of the top offensive units in the sport and serves a spot on the top-10.

Patrick Mahomes - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire Pickups

No. 9: Patrick Mahomes, QB - Kansas City Chiefs

Even though the Chiefs have a 0-2 record, Patrick Mahomes is still playing at an elite level. Facing two tough opponents (Chargers and Eagles) without his top two wide receivers, Mahomes has thrown for 445 yards and scored four total touchdowns (two rushing, two throwing). He has thrown only one interception and is averaging 61.3 rushing yards per game. Once Xaiver Worthy and Rashee Rice return, expect Mahomes to bring the Chiefs back to the top of the AFC West.

Matthew Stafford - Fantasy Football Rankings, NFL Injury News, DFS Lineup Picks

No. 8: Matthew Stafford, QB - Los Angeles Rams

During the final weeks of the preseason, concerns arose that Matthew Stafford might miss time due to a back injury. However, the veteran QB has put those concerns to rest, as he has led the Rams to a perfect start, and they appear to be true Super Bowl contenders. Through these two games, Stafford has thrown for 543 passing yards and added three scores. With Puka Nacua and Davante Adams as his top wideouts, expect Stafford to finish near the top in passing yards.

Jayden Daniels - Fantasy Football Rankings, NFL Injury News, DFS Lineup Picks

No. 7: Jayden Daniels, QB - Washington Commanders

Jayden Daniles enjoyed a strong start to the season as he took care of business against the New York Giants. However, in Week 2, the entire Commanders offense stumbled against the Green Bay Packers. In this game, Daniels threw for just 200 yards with two scores and added 17 yards on seven carries. He came away from this game with a knee sprain and could be held out of action in Week 3.

Baker Mayfield - Fantasy Football Rankings, Waiver Wire Pickups, Draft Sleepers

No. 6: Baker Mayfield. QB - Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay offense have not looked as dominant as they did last season, but they still hold a perfect 2-0 record. During these two games, Mayfield has averaged just 192 passing yards per game but has thrown five overtime touchdowns. In both games, he led the Buccaneers to a game-winning score within the final minutes. Once this offense finds its footing, expect Mayfield to sit near the top 5.

Jalen Hurts - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

No. 5: Jalen Hurts, QB - Philadelphia Eagles

Similar to Mayfield, Jaylen Hurts has not needed to push the ball downfield that much through the early part of the season, yet the Eagles still boast a 2-0 record and look like Super Bowl contenders once again. Through two games, Hurts has totaled just 253 combined passing yards with no scores. However, he has been effective with his legs, scoring three touchdowns with 77 yards.

Justin Herbert - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

No. 4: Justin Herbert, QB - Los Angeles Chargers

After having his upside capped in a run-first offense last season, the Chargers have shifted their offensive game plan to center their QB. Through two games, Herbert has racked up 500 passing yards with a perfect 5:0 TD:INT. He has thrown seven passes for longer than 20+ yards and one for over 40+ yards. With his three wide receivers (Ladd McConkey, Keenan Allen, and Quentin Johnston) playing at an elite level, Herbert should remain quite high on this list all season.

Jordan Love - Fantasy Football Rankings, NFL Injury News, DFS Lineup Picks

No. 3: Jordan Love, QB - Green Bay Packers

After battling injuries throughout most of 2024, Jordan Love looks like his 2023 self and has emerged as a legit MVP contender. Through two games, Love has led the Packers to two demanding victories and has tallied 480 passing yards with four scores. He has yet to have another interception and is averaging a stellar 9.1 YPA. With his elite defense behind him, Love should be in a great position to lead the Packers to one of the top seeds in the conference.

Lamar Jackson - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

No. 2: Lamar Jackson, QB - Baltimore Ravens

After falling just short in a thrilling loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 1, Lamar Jackson bounced back in a big way in Week 2. During their victory over the Browns, Jackson went 19-for-25 with 225 passing yards and four touchdowns. Despite losing in Week 1, Jackson was very efficient as well, going 14-for-19 with 109 passing yards and two scores with 70 rushing yards, and an additional score on the ground.

Josh Allen - Fantasy Football Rankings, NFL Injury News, DFS Lineup Picks

No. 1: Josh Allen, QB - Buffalo Bills

Sitting in the top spot once again is Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills. In Week 1, Allen pulled off an incredible comeback over the Baltimore Ravens, tallying 394 yards with four total touchdowns (two passing, two rushing). In Week 2, the Bills picked up another victory, but Allen was not needed in this game. However, he continued to flash elite playmaking ability, totaling 59 rushing yards on just six carries.
