Orelvis Martinez Hits Two Homers on Tuesday
Orelvis Martinez went 3-for-4 with two home runs and two RBI against Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday. The 23-year-old bounced back to a solid .811 OPS in May after a miserable April when he slashed .147/.237/.279 with a 39.5 percent strikeout rate. The whiff rate is still high at 37.2 percent, and his batted ball metrics are decent, with a 40.6 percent hard-hit rate and 8.5 percent barrel rate. He's flashed impressively high exit velocities in the past, but there is a lot of swing and miss. There's a good chance we'll see Martinez up with the Blue Jays as we get into the summer. In which case, he'd make for a deep league or AL-only add.
