Carson Williams Homers in Three-Hit Day on Sunday
Carson Williams went 3-for-5 with a double, a solo home run, and three runs scored on Sunday for Triple-A Durham. Hopefully this performance gets him going, as it has been a challenging start to the season for the 21-year-old. The former first-round draft pick homered twice on May 7, but that was followed by a 4-for-36 (.111) stretch before hitting another homer on May 21, which was then followed by a 3-for-26 (.115) stretch before Sunday's three-hit game. Sunday's home run came off the bat at 101.8 mph, and the double was hit even harder at 107.6, so he can still make loud contact, but contact has been the problem, as the 6-foot-2 slugger owns an 18.5 percent swinging-strike rate and an ugly 37.4 percent strikeout rate thus far. With Ha-Seong Kim on the verge of returning, the big league club doesn't need to rush Williams, but they'll surely hope he gets things going, as he was projected to be the shortstop of the future, and is currently the author of a .185/.284/.370 slash line on the year.
