Fantasy Football Dynasty Watch: Top College Fantasy Football Players Week 5 (2024)

Mike Marteny takes a look at 2024 breakout collegiate stars who will be available in your fantasy football dynasty drafts within the next year or two. Who shined in Week 5 of the 2024 season?

Welcome back to another season of Fantasy Football Dynasty Watch, where I highlight the best and brightest performances from the college football week that was. We had some good games on the college circuit in Week 5, including James Madison dumping upward of 60 points again. Which players really stood out?

We will introduce you to these college players earlier than many of your fantasy football league mates. We here at RotoBaller are all about giving you an advantage. If you had paid attention to this column last year, you would have known about Kimani Vidal and Xavier Worthy long before their performances at the NFL Combine.

I will highlight one quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and tight end every week of the college season who put up some really big numbers. I'll let you know what it means for your dynasty leagues. Do these guys have NFL futures? You'll find out!

Fantasy Football Dynasty Watch: Quarterbacks

Chandler Morris, North Texas (22-34, 439 yards, 5 TD; 4 carries, 5 yards) vs. Tulsa

Morris has been around the block a couple of times. He committed to Oklahoma in 2020 as the heir apparent to Spencer Rattler. After realizing that Caleb Williams was the future, Morris went to TCU. He lost the job after the opener to Colorado in 2022 to Max Duggan. Morris was solid last year for TCU before losing his job again to Josh Hoover.

Incredibly, Morris still has one more year of eligibility left at North Texas should he choose to use it. He's undersized for a modern quarterback (6-feet, 191 pounds), but he does have decent speed. His skills could translate to the next level, but any NFL future that Morris has right now is as a backup.

Fantasy Football Dynasty Watch: Running Backs

Ashton Jeanty, Boise State (26 carries, 259 yards, 4 TD; reception, 7 yards) vs. Washington State

Ashton Jeanty is on pace to run for 3,380 yards + 52 TDs while averaging 10.3 per carry.

His 588 rushing yards after contact alone would put him 6th in the country in rushing + his 43 forced missed tackles leads the country.

Jeanty become the first repeat offender on the dynasty watch list this year at running back. It was his second game of more than 200 rushing yards this season (he was eight yards short against Oregon). My analysis of him hasn't changed much. He is shifty and hard to bring down. Jeanty bounces off of contact and a low center of gravity makes it hard for defenders to get a clean hit on him.

With so many NFL teams using two or three running backs in the flow of a game now, Jeanty will have a strong role in the NFL. His blocking ability isn't what a larger back's is, but he can still have a good career as an early-down back.

Fantasy Football Dynasty Watch: Wide Receivers

Skyler Bell, Connecticut (6 receptions, 153 yards, 3 TD) vs. Buffalo

Bell has toiled away in relative obscurity in Madison with ineffective quarterbacks and a power running game dominating the offense. A move closer to home (he's from New York City) has gone well for Bell. This is his third 100-yard game of the season catching passes from his former practice mate in Madison, Nick Evers. Yes, Wisconsin could have had this!

Bell is a touch undersized (6-feet, 185 pounds) for an outside receiver at the next level. He has the hands and route running to hold his own, but will he get chucked by bigger and stronger NFL corners? As you seen in the clip above, Bell is very elusive with the ball in his hands. Bell has the skills to play at the next level, but so do hundreds of college receivers. He will likely need to turn heads at the NFL Combine in order to get a real shot.

Fantasy Football Dynasty Watch: Tight Ends

Harold Fannin Jr., Bowling Green (12 receptions, 192 yards, 2 TD) vs. Old Dominion

This weekend, @BG_Football’s Harold Fannin had the second most receiving yards in a game for a TE in the last five years.

He finished with 12 catches, 188 yards and two TDs.

What more can we say about Fannin? He has been the tight end on this list in three of the five weeks. Yes, he is that much better than everyone else at the position right now. He will have an NFL future. Bowling Green has used him all over the field this season, showcasing for NFL scouts that he has the hands and is lithe enough to be a receiver as well.

What his true role in the NFL will be is open for debate, but my comparison is still Kyle Pitts. If you saw Pitts play at Florida, you know what kind of athlete he was. Landing spot is so important in the NFL. Hopefully Fannin lands with a team that will utilize his skills.
