Fantasy Baseball Injury Reports - Updates for Fernando Tatis Jr., Blake Snell, James Wood, David Bednar, David Fry, Starling Marte, and more

Fernando Tatis Jr. - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, MLB Injury News, DFS Lineup Picks

Fantasy baseball injury updates and injury reports for MLB hitters and pitchers as of 6/24/2024, including Fernando Tatis Jr., Blake Snell, James Wood, David Bednar, David Fry, Starling Marte, and more.

Week 14 of the 2024 MLB season is set to begin, and there are several injured players to keep tabs on. These bumps and bruises are sure to affect fantasy baseball lineups, so let's take a look at the top injured players including Fernando Tatis Jr., Blake Snell, James Wood, David Bednar, David Fry, Starling Marte, and more

This is the next edition of this year's fantasy baseball injury updates for hitters and pitchers as of June 24, 2024. Some players on this list impact fantasy baseball more than others, but with leagues of all shapes and sizes, all players should be monitored ahead of the start of the week.

To keep close tabs on all of the news across the MLB, make sure to favorite or bookmark the fantasy baseball player news page, and download the free RotoBaller fantasy baseball mobile app with push notification alerts on all the latest news. Let's look at the injury updates for the top fantasy baseball players.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Fernando Tatis Jr. Injury Update

San Diego Padres outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. (triceps, quad), who exited Friday's game after being hit on the left elbow, was available in Sunday afternoon's game against the visiting San Diego Padres in the right situation, manager Mike Shildt said. Tatis remains day-to-day with the elbow and the quad injury he's been playing through.

It sounds like the Padres and fantasy managers should have a good chance of getting Tatis back into their lineups for Monday's series opener against the Washington Nationals in San Diego, but considering he's banged up with multiple issues at the moment, there's always a chance he could sit out another game or so to recuperate. There's more apparent concern about the 25-year-old superstar's quad problem, which has lingered for most of the year.

Blake Snell Injury Update

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Blake Snell (groin) labored through his first rehab start on Sunday, tossing 1 ⅔ innings while allowing two runs on three hits. He didn't strike out a batter and walked three. It wasn't the appearance that Snell or the Giants were looking for and it shows that he's going to need at least one more rehab start before he can return to the big league team. It's been a bit of a disaster season for Snell, who signed with the Giants late and hasn't been able to find his midseason form.

Injuries haven't helped his cause, but that doesn't excuse the abysmal 9.51 ERA and 1.94 WHIP Snell has this season. Fantasy managers who own Snell know that he can turn it on at any point and look like a Cy Young candidate, but he will need to do that soon to salvage this season.

James Wood Injury Update

Washington Nationals outfield prospect James Wood returned from a hamstring injury last week and has not missed a beat. Since returning, Wood, a consensus Top-5 prospect has gone 3-for-12 with a home run, two RBI and four walks in four games. Prior to landing on the seven-day injured list, Wood was carving up Triple-A pitching.

On the season, the 21-year-old has dominated with an incredible .348 batting average to go along with 10 homers, 33 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 178 at-bats. Wood has shown that he has not been overmatched by Triple-A pitching and it should only be a matter of time before he forces his way onto the big-league roster. As one of the best prospects in the game, Wood should be rostered or stashed in all formats. (MiLB.com)

David Bednar Injury Update

Pittsburgh Pirates closer David Bednar (side) was placed on the 15-day injured list on Sunday afternoon with left side tightness. He was unavailable for Saturday's game and clearly needs extra time to recover. It is unclear how long he will be sidelined for. Bednar has been more sporadic than normal in 2024 as evidenced by his 5.17 ERA, but he has still converted 16-of-19 save opportunities and produced a 9.19 K/9. Aroldis Chapman should be the main beneficiary in Bednar's absence as he collected the save on Saturday.

Chapman owns a 4.00 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, two saves, 13 holds and 45:27 K:BB this season. He is a worthwhile pickup for fantasy managers that are desperate for saves in the short term.

David Fry Injury Update

Cleveland Guardians catcher David Fry (elbow) left Sunday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays in the third inning with right elbow inflammation. There was concern that Fry was dealing with a head injury after he was struck in the head by a Danny Jansen practice swing in the first inning, but that does not appear to be related.

Fry is considered day-to-day for now with more information to come. The 28-year-old has been a surprisingly productive fantasy asset this season as he is slashing .312/.429/.526 with eight home runs, 31 RBI and four stolen bases across 55 games. Hopefully, he is able to return sooner rather than later.

Starling Marte Injury Update

New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (knee) was not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Chicago Cubs. Marte left Saturday's game with right knee soreness, but it does not look like he will need to hit the injured list at this time. The Mets have the day off on Monday which will let Marte get a bit of extra rest.

The veteran outfielder is slashing .278/.328/.416 with seven home runs, 30 RBI, 38 runs and 12 stolen bases this season.

Josh Jung Injury Update

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) will take live batting practice on Tuesday after he was shut down for the weekend due to wrist soreness. He could be activated off of the injured list as soon as Tuesday if all goes well in the session. Jung went 4-for-17 with five strikeouts during his four-game rehab stint at Triple-A Round Rock.

He has been sidelined since fracturing his wrist way back on April 1, but his return seems imminent. Upon activation, Jung will serve as the team's primary third baseman and offer solid power numbers for fantasy managers. The 26-year-old slashed .266/.315/.467 with 23 home runs and 70 RBI across 122 games last season. He should be owned in all fantasy formats once he is back. (MLB.com)

Jesus Luzardo Injury Update

Miami Marlins starter Jesus Luzardo (back) was moved to the 60-day injured list on Sunday morning. The 26-year-old was originally placed on the 15-day injured list on Saturday afternoon after he was scratched from his scheduled start. He is set to miss around four-to-six weeks due to a lumbar stress reaction.

It is Luzardo's second stint on the IL this year and another injury for a battered Marlins rotation. It has not been a banner year for Luzardo in the first place as he owns a 5.00 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 58:22 K:BB across 12 starts. It is unclear how the Marlins plan to set their rotation as they currently have six starters on the IL. Luzardo should be able to return right around the All-Star break barring any setbacks, but he has not been the most reliable fantasy asset even when healthy. (MLB.com)

Kodai Senga Injury Update

New York Mets starting pitcher Kodai Senga (shoulder) was able to throw a successful 22-pitch live bullpen session on Sunday. This is the first time that Senga has been able to face hitters since early May. The expectation is that Senga will do this again before heading out on a rehab assignment.

It's a step in the right direction, but fantasy managers shouldn't expect to get Senga back anytime soon. The hope is that Senga can rejoin the rotation following the All-Star break.

Will Benson Injury Update

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Will Benson left Sunday's game against the Boston Red Sox after he took a 97 MPH fastball off of his left elbow. He initially stayed in the game to run the bases but exited once the Reds took the field defensively. Benson will likely head for X-rays after the game to see the extent of the injury.

The 26-year-old has struggled mightily at the plate over the past few months and is hitless in his past nine games. He is slashing .192/.287/.379 with eight home runs, 22 RBI, and nine stolen bases this season. He can be considered day-to-day for now, but his fantasy value has already been drastically drained.

Taijuan Walker Injury Update

The Philadelphia Phillies placed right-hander Taijuan Walker (finger) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to June 22) with right index finger inflammation on Sunday and recalled right-hander Michael Mercado from Triple-A Lehigh Valley in a corresponding move. Walker is officially dealing with a blister on his right index finger and will take at least the next two weeks to try and heal up. The 31-year-old veteran didn't look comfortable in Friday night's loss against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks when he allowed four runs on five hits across just four innings of work.

Walker currently sits with a 3-3 record, 5.60 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, 43 strikeouts and 21 walks in 53 innings over his 10 starts in 2024. He has a greater chance for wins pitching for the Phillies, but his 18.7% strikeout rate, his lowest mark since 2018, is concerning.
