BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 7% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: It is that time of year when clubs begin to call up their prospects. Contenders want all hands on deck for a playoff push and those lagging behind need to see who can contribute in 2024.
With Endy Rodriguez and Henry Davis already receiving the call to the MLB, Quinn Priester was the top prospect left at the Triple-A level for the Pirates. Priester posted a modest 3.85 FIP and 22.4 K% in Triple-A this year before being called up this past week. In his first start at the major league level this past Monday, Priester surrendered a rough seven earned runs in 5 1/3 innings pitched, but he has shown enough promise at Triple-A to stay on the fantasy radar for deeper leagues moving forward.
Priester's repertoire is anchored by a slick sinking fastball that averages 92 mph with significant vertical action. He can follow that with a curveball that has an impressive fall-off-the-shelf ability for a right-handed pitcher and carries vertical action similar to his sinking fastball for a nice combination.
With his pedigree and pitching combination, Priester has the upside to be a significant contributor to fantasy staffs down the stretch. Managers should monitor his next 1-2 starts to see if Priester can perform at the MLB level, likely matching up against the Angels next. With a barren waiver wire in many deep leagues, Priester may be one of the few viable options left to round out fantasy pitching staffs going into the playoff push.
