ANALYSIS: Seattle started the season with a full stable of effective, experienced starting pitchers. With Robbie Ray out for the year recovering from Tommy John surgery and Marco Gonzales nursing a worrisome forearm strain, Bryan Woo and Bryce Miller have emerged as strong rookie arms for the Mariners.
The 23-year-old Woo was promoted directly from Double-A when Gonzales hit the injured list. Woo has impressed with a 3.63 ERA backed up by a robust 3.08 FIP through 34.2 innings pitched in the MLB. Woo leads with a lethal fastball, averaging 95mph, and has registered a 30.5 K% this season. He has maintained a K% above 30.0% at each stop in the minors and now the MLB.
With 78.2 IP between Double-A and the MLB this season, Woo should remain in the Seattle rotation for the remainder of the regular season, although a late-year demotion for innings management is possible. His strikeout potential significantly lifts his floor, particularly in points leagues. He is a safe SP3 for any manager and may rise to the level of a solid SP2 if the Mariners can provide adequate run support to boost his wins total. If Woo is still available, add him to raise your strikeout total and stabilize your ratios.
