The New Orleans Saints had a disappointing 2022 season. They finished third in the NFC South with a 7-10 record. Furthermore, the team had a 2-4 record against their division.

New Orleans has struggled over the past two years at the quarterback position. The team started five quarterbacks in the two years since Drew Brees retired. However, the Saints addressed that issue in free agency, signing Derek Carr to a four-year contract.

Furthermore, New Orleans traded Sean Payton’s contract rights to the Denver Broncos. The Saints received the 29th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and another draft pick swap in exchange for the former head coach.

What Are The New Orleans Saints Biggest Needs On Offense?

The team solved their top need on offense by signing Carr. While he isn’t an elite quarterback, the former Las Vegas Raiders is a massive upgrade over Jameis Winston and Andy Dalton. However, the Saints need to improve his receiving core.

Last year New Orleans hit a home run with the selection of Chris Olave. The rookie had 72 receptions on 119 targets for 1,042 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Meanwhile, Michael Thomas will return in 2023 after restructuring his contract. However, the Saints can’t count on the veteran wide receiver after he has missed 80% of the games over the past three years.

One potential draft target is Cedric Tillman. The former Volunteer had 101 receptions for 1,498 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns over the past two years. He would be an excellent target for the Saints at the top of the second round. Furthermore, Tillman and Thomas share similar traits.

The Saints had limited salary cap space this offseason. Unfortunately, that meant the team lost several defensive linemen, including former first-round pick Marcus Davenport. Furthermore, Cameron Jordan turns 34 in July and is entering the final year of his contract.

One potential draft target is Will McDonald. The former Iowa State star had 27 sacks and 33.5 tackles for a loss over the past three years. He will be a first-round pick next week. McDonald would be an excellent draft target for the Saints at the end of the first round.
