ANALYSIS: Kevon Looney is not going to grab any headlines any time soon. First of all, there are way more heavyweight names in the Warriors for him to do so. And second, the Warriors are so weird and struggling so much this season that the last thing you’d think about is Looney. Better stay that way for us fantasy GMs hunting for late-season bargains!
Looney has been pretty fantastic (no pun intended) in the past week and change. In fact, he’s played five games since last weekend and he’s always hit at least 25 FP with three games above 33 FP, two into the 40s, and a season-high explosion for 52 FP just last Friday when he put up a silly 18-16 dub-dub on top of assisting three buckets and swatting four (!) shots against the Hawks.
Don’t get Looney wrong, though. Those 18 points were actually a season-high for him, and he’s only scored 15+ points in two games all year long (72 GP). The rebounds, though, are often there because he has no real competition for them in the paint, which is the main reason behind his 10+ RPG average since the start of February.
Looney is a basic big man. No three-point shots, a high number of boards, reasonable points on a meager diet of FGA (5.5 FGA from Feb. 1 on), and the low-volume assists/steals/blocks with no turnovers. The upside with Looney is very limited but if you are in the need of blocks through the home stretch then making the Dubs’ starting center your main target isn’t the worst option you can chase.
