Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon has been a low-end RB1 in fantasy for most of his career. Mixon has played in Cincinnati for six seasons, and is entering his age-27 season.

Mixon carried the ball 212 times for 826 yards and seven touchdowns in 2022, adding a career-high 60 receptions for 441 yards and two additional touchdowns through the air. The veteran put up consistent numbers en route to another successful fantasy campaign.

Mixon was recently recharged with a misdemeanor for aggravated menacing. Will this legal charge cause him to face suspension, or will he be good to go for the full 2023 season?

Will Joe Mixon Be Suspended in 2023?

There is no telling whether or not Mixon will face discipline from the league in response to the aggravated menacing charges that he is facing. Mixon allegedly pointed a gun at a woman, leading to these charges. If he is found guilty, it is hard to see him not facing a suspension given that this is a similar situation to that of the NBA’s Ja Morant.

Given that this is a legal situation, it may take time to shake itself out. We just saw Alvin Kamara play a full season while waiting on a domestic violence hearing, so as long as the situation is still in the air the league may not take action.

Will The Bengals Waive Joe Mixon?

Mixon’s name has been whirling around as a potential cut candidate since well before the offseason began. While we have seen veterans Leonard Fournette and Ezekiel Elliott become cap casualties, Mixon is still under contract in Cincinnati.

If the Bengals release Mixon post-June 1st, they would save $10 million in cap space. For a team gearing up to sign their quarterback to a long-term deal, it seems like a no-brainer. The legal troubles only add to the case to cut Mixon.

While Mixon has had a great career in Cincinnati, the writing may be on the wall for the end of his time as the Bengals’ RB1. 

With the running back market struggling to get moving, Cincinnati has plenty of options to replace Mixon should they opt to move on. While they lost incumbent backup Samaje Perine to the Denver Broncos in free agency, fantasy analyst Frank Ammirante suggests a pairing of Jahmyr Gibbs and Ezekiel Elliott to mirror the Lions’ “thunder and lightning” duo.

Move Mixon in dynasty now if possible. With his legal troubles and uncertain future in Cincinnati, it could only be a matter of time before he finds himself out of the league.
