Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 7:
Michael Mayer, TE, Las Vegas Raiders
Las Vegas Raiders tight end Michael Mayer could see a starter's workload once again in Week 7 if fellow tight end Brock Bowers (knee) remains sidelined due to a knee injury.
With Bowers out in Week 6, Mayer recorded five catches for 50 yards and a touchdown on seven targets against the Tennessee Titans.
The Raiders have a more difficult matchup in Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs. Still, Mayer profiles as a low-end starting option at the tight end position for fantasy managers while Bowers is out.
Zach Ertz, TE, Washington Commanders
Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz caught all six of his targets for 43 yards and a touchdown in Monday night's 25-24 loss to the Bears.
After going without a catch for the first time since the 2014 season in last week's game against the Chargers, Ertz bounced back and led Washington with six receptions, including a red-zone touchdown. It tied his season high for receptions and marked his third touchdown of the year.
It was good to see the veteran get back on track and be a reliable weapon for Daniels and the Washington passing attack, which has been beaten up with injuries. Ertz will remain in TE1 territory for Week 7 in a potential high-scoring matchup in Dallas.
AJ Barner, TE, Seattle Seahawks
Seattle Seahawks tight end AJ Barner saw his production dip slightly in Sunday's 20-12 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, but was still effective even on minimal work. Barner caught a career-high seven passes in Week 5, but drew only three targets against Jacksonville (3/71).
Despite the downtick, the 23-year-old placed second in yards, receptions, and looks to target hog teammate Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and remains an intriguing fantasy play. While the touchdowns can't be counted on every week, Barner is far and away the snap leader at his position, and the clear third target on the team behind Smith-Njigba and veteran Cooper Kupp.
Fantasy managers can't expect weekly consistency quite yet with diminished target totals, but the Michigan alum is an excellent streaming option and is slowly rising up the dynasty ranks.
David Njoku, TE, Cleveland Browns
According to The Athletic's Zac Jackson, Cleveland Browns running back Jerome Ford and tight end David Njoku (knee) could be trade candidates with the team sitting at 1-5. 2025 is looking to be another lost season for the Browns as they continue to search for a long-term answer at quarterback.
Jackson reports that it wouldn't be surprising to see the team stockpile more draft capital as they build for the future, leaving Ford and Njoku as potential trade chips. Ford has stayed involved through the air, but rookie backfield mate Quinshon Judkins has asserted himself as the team's RB1.
Njoku has also remained involved, but the emergence of rookie tight end Harold Fannin Jr. has dented his target share. Nothing is set in stone, but moving on from Cleveland could increase the fantasy value of both players, depending on their landing spot.
Evan Engram, TE, Denver Broncos
In Sunday's London game, which few would consider an instant classic, Denver tight end Evan Engram led all Broncos pass catchers with five receptions for 42 yards.
Both marks also represented season highs for the veteran tight end, who has now seen at least five targets and four receptions in three straight games. While none of these numbers justify the brief offseason hype stemming from head coach Sean Payton's talk of using him in the Joker role, Engram has provided a reliable floor at a position where that's hard to come by.
If he can mix in the occasional touchdown, as he did in Week 5, he should continue to be in play in most formats as injuries and bye weeks mount.
