When is Andrew Painter getting called up? Will Painter get promoted in June 2025? Read about this top fantasy baseball prospect outlook heading into Week 10.
When the Philadelphia Phillies selected pitcher Andrew Painter with the 13th overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, the franchise saw his potential coming out of high school. The right-hander showed that in his first two minor league seasons in 2021 and 2022.
However, Painter hasn't thrown many innings over the last few years after undergoing Tommy John surgery in July of 2023. He missed the entire 2023 and 2024 seasons due to that elbow injury before returning earlier this year.
So, when are the Phillies going to call up Painter? Can we expect him to make his debut in June? Let's dive in and find out.
Andrew Painter Prospect Update for Fantasy Baseball
Even though Painter missed the past two seasons, it's not surprising that he is still highly regarded as one of the best prospects. MLB Pipeline has him ranked No. 5 overall and the second-best pitching prospect in all of baseball. Before suffering that elbow injury in 2023, the right-hander finished with a 1.56 ERA and 155 strikeouts in his last minor league season in 2022.
Following those two missed seasons, it is nice to see Painter pitching again in the minors. He has a 3.90 ERA and 37 strikeouts in his first nine starts this season. The 22-year-old originally started the year down at Single-A Clearwater before moving up to Triple-A Lehigh Valley at the beginning of May.

It hasn't necessarily been smooth sailing for Painter in his first season back from Tommy John surgery, but he continues to showcase his potential. He has struck out at least five batters in three straight starts and should make his MLB debut at some point in 2025.
Andrew Painter Outlook for Fantasy Baseball
The Phillies have been very open about when we could potentially see Painter in the majors. As a result, we should not expect the right-hander to be promoted any time in June. Phillies manager Rob Thomson said a few days ago that he "doesn't think" the team's top prospect will be called up before the All-Star break in July.
That means it's going to be at least another month until we actually see Painter in Philadelphia's rotation. However, there's a strong chance that he will be promoted shortly after the All-Star break. Therefore, fantasy managers should start to think about stashing him in most leagues.
Andrew Painter continues to prove why he is one of the top pitching prospects in baseball.
The Phillies pitcher has the potential to have at least SIX pitches that all grade out to a plus or better.

Painter has the tools to be an elite fantasy option right away, with a mean fastball that reaches 100 mph. While he might not have the best numbers down in Triple-A this year, he should only get better as the season goes on. There's a reason why he is one of the best pitching prospects in all of baseball. So, make sure to add him before someone in your league does.
