Overrated and Underrated College Football Teams - Reviewing NCAA CFB Rankings For Week 10

Jaxson Dart - College Football Rankings, NCAA CFB DFS Lineup Picks

Jackson's list of overrated and underrated CFB power rankings from AP, for 2023 NCAA college football teams for Week 10. Who are the most overvalued and undervalued college football teams after Week 9?

The 2023-24 college football season has flown by in the blink of an eye, and it's time to start thinking about the postseason. The AP Poll voters should have a solid idea of what the pecking order should be, but there are still some incorrect rankings ahead of Week 10 CFB action.

There are overvalued and undervalued teams all over the country. Let's dive in and analyze the five teams who are improperly ranked after Week 9 action.

It's time for the next article of a year-long series: Overrated and Underrated College Football Teams after the release of the weekly Associated Press Poll. All rankings listed are based on the AP Poll. With the initial College Football Playoff Rankings set to drop on Tuesday, October 31, we'll begin to cover those rankings, too.

Overrated College Football Teams For Week 10

Penn State Nittany Lions: No. 9

Penn State was ranked No. 10 last week. The Nittany Lions hobbled to a nine-point win over a lifeless Indiana team and somehow moved up the rankings. This was due to the Oklahoma Sooners suffering a defeat, but OU has a far superior win on its resume (Texas) than Penn State does. Oklahoma lost to Kansas, who sits at 6-2 through eight games.

The Sooners should remain ahead of Penn State, who have played the 63rd-toughest schedule to date. Quarterback Drew Allar and running backs Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton have flashed at times this season, but that doesn't change the fact that PSU's best win is over Iowa, who has the worst offense in all of college football.

Penn State faces Maryland, Michigan, Rutgers, and Michigan State to close out its 2023 season. That said, they will likely finish 10-2 without any impressive victories.

Oregon State Beavers: No. 16

Led by quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, the Oregon State Beavers have been a fun team to follow this season. However, they now have two losses to two mediocre teams. The Week 4 loss to the Washington State Cougars didn't look bad at the time, but WSU is now 4-4 heading into Week 10.

Over the weekend, the Beavers lost to a 4-3 Arizona team. Arizona has played teams close this season but hasn't been able to get over the hump until this Week 9 matchup in the Grand Canyon State. Oregon State deserves to stay in the top 25, but Air Force, Tennessee, Tulane, and even Kansas all have a case to be ranked ahead of them.

OSU will get a chance to prove the doubters wrong with matchups against Washington and Oregon in the final two games of the regular season in a few weeks.

Underrated College Football Teams For Week 10

Florida State Seminoles: No. 4

Florida State has just three first-place votes ahead of Week 10, but the Noles have a real argument that they are the best team in college football. They began the season with a 21-point victory over LSU, who is currently No. 14 in the polls and has the No. 1 total offense in college football.

Mike Norvell's team was tested in close wins over Clemson and Boston College earlier this season, but they have dominated all of their game since. In four victories over Virginia Tech, Syracuse, No. 16 Duke, and Wake Forest, the Noles have outscored their opponents 159-56. This team can pass, run, and play defense at a high level.

They have stars all over the field and should come out of the ACC and have a legitimate chance to win the College Football Playoff National Championship. Ultimately, FSU has been far more impressive than No. 3 Ohio State this season.

Ole Miss Rebels: No. 11

Ole Miss has been battle-tested this season, facing the 25th-toughest schedule to date. Lane Kiffin's offense has put up the 12th-most yards per game (474.0) and his defense has at least been respectable this season (354.3 yards per game allowed).

Wins over Tulane, Georgia Tech, and LSU are noteworthy, and the team's only loss comes at the hands of No. 8 Alabama. Ole Miss will have to take care of business against Texas A&M this week before a battle on the road at No. 1 Georgia.

Ultimately, their ranking doesn't matter until we see what happens against the two-time defending National Champions, but this one-less SEC West squad has all the makings of a top-ten team -- unlike Penn State.

Kansas Jayhawks: No. 22

Kansas' only losses come to a 6-2 Oklahoma State team and a 7-1 Texas team. In Week 9, the Jayhawks defeated the Oklahoma Sooners for the first time since 1997, snapping an 18-game losing streak to one of college football's premier programs.

Kansas can now say they have one of the best wins -- if not the best win -- of the 2023 season. Despite playing with a backup quarterback, Kansas has excelled and established itself as a legitimate Power 5 conference program.

For that, Lance Leipold's team should jump up at least a few spots in the Week 10 polls.
