Shohei Ohtani more than 6.5 strikeouts
This number certainly appears low, especially when you consider some books that have this listed near -140. Ohtani has struck out 14 batters over his first 13 innings pitched. He also managed to strike out at least seven batters in 18 starts in 2022. The only pause for concern here is that the Red Sox are posting just a 17.9% K rate vs. right-handers over the previous two weeks.
Jesus Luzardo more than 7.5 strikeouts
While this is a large number, Luzardo did strike out 10 Twins just two starts ago and also managed to mow down eight or more in five starts a season ago. His matchup is superb as he will be up against the Giants. Over the previous two weeks, San Francisco has posted a K rate of nearly 30% vs. left-handed pitching while also posting a miserable 50 wRC+ mark.
Jacob deGrom more than 8.5 strikeouts
deGrom has not had trouble racking up strikeouts in 2023 as he now has 27 strikeouts over his first 16 2/3 innings pitched while eclipsing this number in two of his previous three starts. He will be up against the Royals, who have struck out at a rate of 25.6% vs. right-handed pitching over the previous two weeks, which ranks as the fifth-worst in baseball. They have also posted just a 79 wRC+ mark over that same span. deGrom should hopefully stay out of trouble in this one, especially when you pair it with their 5.6% walk rate.
C.J. Cron more than 8.5 fantasy score
Cron started the season hot and has since backed off a bit; however, he has still eclipsed this total in two of his previous five games. He will be back in Coors facing Rich Hill, who has allowed 39 homers and 56 doubles to right-handed hitters since 2021. Cron is no stranger to mashing left-handed pitching either, as he has posted 18 home runs over his previous 366 plate appearances against them.
