6 days agoThe 43-year-old future Hall of Famer Glover Teixeira was unable to make magic happen again on Saturday when he suffered a decision defeat at the hands of new champion Jamahal Hill. In 25 minutes of action, Teixeira was unable to get his ground game going, landing only two of his 17 takedown tries. He also only landed 75 significant strikes compared to that of Hill's 232. Where the former champion goes from here is unclear.--Matt Bricker - RotoBallerSource: ESPN

6 days agoIt took five rounds, but Jamahal Hill walked out of the Octagon in the main event of UFC 283 on Saturday as the new light-heavyweight champion after a dominant performance. In 25 minutes of action, Hill tallied 232 significant strikes compared to that of Glover Teixeira's 75. Another big part of Hill's victory was stuffing 15 of Teixeira's 17 takedown tries on the night. A strong performance sits Hill atop the light-heavyweight division. It will be interesting to see what happens from here for Hill.--Matt Bricker - RotoBallerSource: ESPN

6 days agoIt was not the way Deiveson Figueiredo wanted his fourth bout against Brandon Moreno to go, and he was unable to capture the flyweight championship on Saturday while suffering a third-round TKO (doctor stoppage) loss in the co-main event at UFC 283 on his home turf of Brazil. In 15 minutes of action, Figueiredo only tallied 19 significant strikes compared to that of Moreno's 48. Figueiredo was just out-hustled and came out on the wrong end of the contest's biggest strikes.--Matt Bricker - RotoBallerSource: ESPN

6 days agoWith two finishes against a common foe, Brandon Moreno defended the interim flyweight title to become the undisputed champion on Saturday by defeating Deiveson Figueiredo via third-round TKO (doctor stoppage). In 15 minutes of action, Moreno out-hustled and out-struck Figueiredo by landing 48 significant strikes compared to that of Fig's 19. Due to a swollen eye sustained from strikes, a doctor stopped the contest between rounds and awarded Moreno the victory. Moreno's four-fight record against Figueiredo now stands at 2-1-1.--Matt Bricker - RotoBallerSource: ESPN

6 days agoUnable to build on his UFC welterweight all-time wins lead, Neil Magny suffered defeat at the hands of Gilbert Burns via first-round submission on Saturday. At the 4:15 mark of the first round, Burns locked in an arm triangle to earn the victory. There's wasn't much in the way of striking in this contest, with a grand total of nine significant strikes landed combined. Though he may not be able to earn victories against the absolute top of the division, Magny still has gas left in the tank to earn victories on fight night.--Matt Bricker - RotoBallerSource: ESPN

6 days agoThere wasn't much striking in Saturday's contest, as Gilbert Burns locked up an arm triangle for a first-round submission win over Neil Magny on the main card of UFC 283. In 4:15 of action, only nine significant strikes combined were landed. Just over two minutes of the fight was spent with Burns in dominant control. After a body-lock takedown, Burns showed his top-tier jiu-jitsu work and earned the submission. This was a much-needed win for Burns, who is still near the very top of the welterweight division.--Matt Bricker - RotoBallerSource: ESPN

6 days ago6-1 heading into her matchup at UFC 283 on Saturday, Lauren Murphy ran into a major road block on her way back to a title shot with a unanimous-decision loss to Jessica Andrade. In 15 minutes of action, Murphy only landed 100 significant strikes compared to that of Andrade's 231. Murphy was also unable to get her ground game working, failing on all 15 of her takedown tries on the night.--Matt Bricker - RotoBallerSource: ESPN

6 days agoBringing the fight to a fellow flyweight title contender, Jessica Andrade earned a dominant unanimous-decision win on the main card of UFC 283 on Saturday. In 15 minutes of action, Andrade tallied an impressive 231 significant strikes (15.4 significant strikes landed per minute) and stuffed all 15 of Lauren Murphy's takedown tries. It was a dominant victory for the title contender. With three wins in a row, Andrade could find herself in title talks sometime this year.--Matt Bricker - RotoBallerSource: ESPN

6 days agoPaul Craig has now lost back-to-back bouts after a six-fight unbeaten streak. On Saturday, Craig fell victim to the dangerous striking of Johnny Walker, his first knockout/TKO loss since 2019. Craig only landed three significant strikes in 2:16 of action. Craig caught a kick by Walker and was walking him to the cage for a takedown, but Walker launched a big right hand that was the beginning of the end for Craig. Still a finisher to be feared, Craig can still score big for fantasy managers if the matchup is right.--Matt Bricker - RotoBallerSource: ESPN

6 days agoThe home-nation fan favorite Johnny Walker looked to be in prime form on Saturday by scoring a huge first-round knockout in the opening main-card matchup of UFC 283 in Brazil. In 2:16 of action, Walker tallied 16 significant strikes, including a big right hand that found the mark while his opponent, Paul Craig, was attempting a takedown off of a caught kick. Walker has now earned back-to-back first-round stoppages after losing back-to-back bouts.--Matt Bricker - RotoBallerSource: ESPN

7 days agoIt's not often we see a fourth meeting between fighters in the world of MMA, but here we are in the co-main event at UFC 283 on Saturday, which will display Deiveson Figueiredo (21-2-1) defending his flyweight title against common foe Brandon Moreno. In their previous three contests, which have been Figueiredo's last three contests in general, he has gone 1-1-1 against Moreno with a submission loss and decision win. Fig is being viewed as the very slight favorite with a salary of $8,200. Throughout his UFC career (13 bouts), he is averaging 84.0 fantasy points per contest. These two have proven that when they meet, anything can happen.--Matt Bricker - RotoBallerSource: ESPN

1 week agoIn a familiar spot, former light-heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira (33-8) will take to the main event of UFC 283 on Saturday to battle Jamahal Hill for the vacant title. A professional since 2002, Teixeira will take to the Octagon for his 42nd career matchup after just becoming a UFC champion in his 40th bout. One of the most dangerous submission finishers in the UFC, 28 of his career wins have come via the finish, with 11 of them coming by submission. Prior to the Jiri Prochazka loss, Teixeira was undefeated in his previous six bouts. DraftKings sees the former champion as the underdog, though, with a salary of $7,800. Throughout his UFC career (24 bouts), he is averaging 88.5 fantasy points per contest. Though anything is possible with Teixeira, this might just be Hill's time to sit atop the division.--Matt Bricker - RotoBallerSource: ESPN

1 week agoThe time has finally come for former Contender Series alumni Jamahal Hill (11-1) to sit atop the light-heavyweight division as he takes on long-time veteran Glover Teixeira in the main event of UFC 283 for the vacant title on Saturday. Aside from an arm injury that led to a TKO loss to Paul Craig, Hill has gone 6-1 (1 no-contest) since joining the UFC. A dangerous finisher with his striking, seven of his 11 career wins have come by knockout/TKO. Hill will need to use his 6.46 significant strikes landed per minute to take control of the dangerous Teixeira. DraftKings sees Hill as the favorite with a salary of $8,400. Throughout his UFC career (six bouts), he is averaging 73.2 points per contest. This looks to be Hill's time to sit atop the division, and a finish could be possible.--Matt Bricker - RotoBallerSource: ESPN

1 week agoIt's not often we see a fourth meeting between fighters in the world of MMA, but here we are in the co-main event at UFC 283 on Saturday, which will display challenger Brandon Moreno (20-6-2) competing against a familiar foe in Deiveson Figueiredo. Three of his last four contests have come against Figueiredo (1-1-1), and he's coming off of an impressive third-round TKO win over rising star Kai Kara-France. With 11 of his 20 career wins coming by submission, you just never know what will happen when these two fighters collide. As the slimmest underdog on the card, Moreno has a DraftKings salary of $8,000. Throughout his UFC career (13 bouts), he is averaging 76.2 fantasy points per contest.--Matt Bricker - RotoBallerSource: ESPN

1 week agoThe UFC welterweight division's all-time wins leader at 20, Neil Magny (27-9) will take to the Octagon for the first time in 2023 when he battles ground ace Gilbert Burns on the main card of UFC 283 this Saturday. Typically a grinding-style fighter who tests his opponents limits, Magny has earned decision victories in 16 of his 27 career victories. DraftKings sees the welterweight's all-time wins leader as the big underdog with a salary of $6,900. Throughout his UFC career (28 bouts), he averages 70.4 fantasy points per contest. Magny could be a sneaky pick, as we could easily see him grinding out a tough win against Burns.--Matt Bricker - RotoBallerSource: UFC
