Zack Gelof Nearing Rehab Assignment
Zack Gelof (ribs, wrist) is making progress in his recovery from a stress reaction in his ribs. He could start a rehab assignment next week, according to Martin Gallegos of MLB.com. Gelof hasn't played at all this season on account of multiple injuries. He began the year on the shelf while recovering from right wrist surgery, and then Gelof's Triple-A rehab stint was halted May 5 because of his rib injury. Gelof appeared in 138 games, swatted 17 home runs and stole 25 bases last season, but the 25-year-old could only muster a .211/.270/.362 line in 547 trips to the plate. The Athletics have mostly turned to Luis Urias at the keystone this year in Gelof's absence. Urias has batted a decent .250/.336/.417 with six homers in 132 plate appearances.
